Question

I recently purchased the LG 4.5 Capacity Smart Washer and want to know if other customers have problems with the UE message with small loads?

Having used the unit on several occassions, we have had at least three UE messages on the smaller loads which is very frustrating.

I get it all the time. I think the wave motion shifts the clothes and then the machine unbalances. This is my biggest complaint with the machine.

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this washing machine. The UE error code suggests that the wash load has gotten out of balance. This can certainly occur if a load is too small, allowing the materials to gather more to one side. Try adding more garments to balance the load.

There is a delicate cycle, but not a hand wash cycle. Would lingerie and other hand wash items be ok in delicate cycle? I've never had a washer without an agitator, hopefully this helps much more with delicate items?

That's the normal load sensing to judge how much water will be needed before it starts running. Only spends a minute or two sensing the size of the load, then it will fill to the appropriate level.

We appreciate your interest in this washing machine. Not all loads will have water flowing from the top of the wash tub. Some are designed to fill from the bottom. This is normal. If the unit is still washing the fabrics, then the unit is operating normally. If you have additional questions about this matter, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

Question

Frequent Uneven (UE and Ue) Load Errors

For some reason, a vast majority of my laundry loads either encounter a hard stop with a UE error, or take a very long time to finish due to the rinse and spin cycle encountering the Ue error.

It really doesn't matter if the load is clothes, sheets or towels. It happens more often than not.

The size of the load doesn't seem to have an affect either. I've tried varying the size of the load to make this stop.

Any suggestions?

Question

Is it possible to wash a down comforter in this machine?

I've tried it in a conventional agitator top-loader, and since it's down feathers, it always floats to the top of the washer and only half of it really touches the water/is cleaned. Will I have the same issues with this washer?

Are you putting too many items in the washer? It can certainly hold a lot but I think in the book it mentions a recommended weight limit if you choose the bulky/bedding cycle. I have a huge king sized comforter that fills the whole tub but it definitely gets washed really well. I think the weight limit might have been 8 pounds.

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this washing machine. If the weight of the fabric is insufficient to take it beneath the water level, either the water level is insufficient, caused by too much content, or perhaps a different cycle should be used, such as the BULKY/BEDDING cycle. If this does not resolve the matter, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

It could be one of three problems: Overloading your washer, not removing them promptly, or incorrect washing temperature. I have never had this problem, and after drying they are smooth. Rarely use an iron.

We regret your dissatisfaction with the operations of this washing machine. If you do not like the condition in which the washer leaves the clothing, you may choose to reduce the spin speed. Check the water lines on the unit. HOT water is known to set wrinkles. As this washer uses a COLD cycle rinse, if the lines are reversed, then it will be difficult to remove such wrinkles.

We appreciate your interest in this washing machine. There are two portions of the original packing materials that were recommended to be kept in case the unit needed to be moved. The first was the base of the carton, which had the segment to restrain the bottom of the tub. The other portion was the Styrofoam insert that was found in the top of the tub. This was shaped to prevent the tub from moving during transport. Unfortunately, we do not have any replacements available for these.

The COLD water cycles tend to add some HOT water to the cycle in order to regulate the COLD water temperature. This is based on the clothing manufacturer’s recommendations for water temperatures. The TAP COLD setting runs the water through the COLD water line only. This is the difference between the COLD and TAP COLD settings.

Although LG says NO, due to unbalancing issues, I have had luck using the following procedure for similar items. Select BULKY/BEDDING that provides the most water in tub. Select your preferences for all other options EXCEPT select NO SPIN. When machine stops remove all items and shake off excess water. I place an old bath towel on the floor to catch any water drippings. I place all items back in washer, including the floor towel, balancing all sides based on wet weight. Select SPIN ONLY. Dry items as clothing label states. You will be pleased with results.

Fabric softener is dispensed during the final rinse. This washer is designed to save rinse water by using the JET SPRAY Rinse System (SMARTRINSE) in the COTTON/NORMAL and HEAVY DUTY cycles. Pressing the FABRIC SOFTENER button redirects the flow of water from the JET SPRAY Rinse to the Fabric Softener dispenser. This information can be found on page 26 of the owner’s manual. That which has been described is normal operation.

yes...the system is set up for each type of setting. If you want to change the setting after you choose what you want, you can.

Question

Can you buy the center piece that helps wash the clothes and keep them even during the cycle?

I keep received the UE which means unbalanced load, which I fix every time and it continues to get stuck right before the rinse cycle everytime. I am not satisfied with my machine. I never thought I would have an issue with a new machine.

I was wondering if you can order the center piece that helps the clothes stay even. Or if I can get a front loaded in replacement of this one. Please let me know how this issue can be resolved.

Thank you.

The machine has been specifically designed to balance the load without the need for a "center piece". If you're chronically receiving an error message, check to insure that you've properly leveled the machine using the adjustable feet. If the machine is properly leveled and you still get error messages, you may have a problem machine...try calling LG and using the on-board diagnostics over the phone.

Hi, I do not think you can purchase the large agitator to add to the machine. Personally, I have only had that message during one load and it is when I washed a very heavy bathrobe with some very large, but lightweight bath rugs and they were the only items in the load. I should have put more in the load to account for the odd mixture of items.
But I will mention that I watched a video about how to load this type of washer where the standard center agitator is missing (maybe on YouTube). The demonstration showed all of the items were being placed around the perimeter of the drum instead of just dumping the load in the center. Basically leaving a large empty space in the center. Of course if you are washing a comforter that may not easy to accomplish, but stacking the clothes around the low agitator making sure that the heavier items are at the bottom and smaller/lighter weight items are stacked on top might fix your issue. The way you load the washer should help you with the unbalanced issue.
Good luck and I hope you learn to enjoy your purchase.
