The one I purchased just started showing up in stores when I purchased it in March 2013. I also believe the earlier model was not a Smart TV. The difference in picture quality between the old model and the new smart tv is like night and day. Hope this helps.

Google your remote, make and model #, you'll find the appropriate button combinations and codes to push to set it for the TV. You may ahve to try a couple to get all the functions you want. I have a remote from Time Warner that is controlling the cable box, TV, and soundbar.

Amazon Prime is not in the Smart options as of June 1013. I worked around this issue by attaching a RoKu unit to the TV. RoKu adds a few additional options to an already good Smart TV.

We appreciate your interest in these LG products. The TV remote control should be compatible with your BluRay player, if the two devices are being connected using the HDMI ports. Otherwise, the SimpLink feature will not be able to offer such control. The remote controls are not programmable, so the SimpLink feature must be used.

Question

External speaker system controlled by TV remote?

Can I hook up external speakers to the 42LN5700 so that the volume is still controlled by TV remote? I was looking at LG speaker system NB2420A, but from what I can tell it has its own remote that must be used to control the volume. That would be a royal pain.

We appreciate your interest in this television and its features. It may be possible to connect an audio system capable of using the SimpLink or CEC controls if the unit is connected with the HDMI port. If no such connection is available, then the unit will have to be controlled separately.

Here is the problem - there are 2 USB ports, but what they don't tell you is that the plug-in device necessary to actually make it Internet enabled - because the Internet plug-in device is so large that when you plug it in - it takes up the space of both USB ports. Then you also cannot attach a Bus adapter to "lengthen" the space for a cord to plug a large Internet enabling device. And without this plugged in - you don't have Internet access.

So in theory, you could be able to plug an Internet plug-in modem, as well as a peripheral like a webcam. Problem is you can't because you really only have one effective USB port although they claim there are two ports. I guess you could two if you weren't connected to the Internet. You are also really limited to only the apps that LG provides; you really don't have full Internet access.

Only way to really find this out - is to buy it - and then of course, it is too late.

We appreciate your interest in this television. This model is designed to use four M6 machine screws for a mounting bracket. The length will depend upon the thickness of the bracket, as well as any spacers being used. This information is available on page 16 of the owner’s manual.
