We appreciate your interest in the operations and capabilities of this 42” LED television. This TV does not have a networking port at all. As such, it will not be compatible with any network features, including wireless (WiFi) connectivity. In order to obtain all the online features that are available on our Smart TVs, including WiFi, but without having to obtain an entirely new TV or player, it is recommended to obtain the Smart TV Upgrader, model SP520 which will allow the Smart TV features which are available through the LG Apps Store. Information about this device can be viewed on our website at http://www.lg.com/us/blu-ray-player....

Question

How do I make the black levels/brightness more to my liking?

I've tried the black level settings, turned up and down brightness and contrast, tried all the settings, but I haven't been able to get a good contrast ratio...the blacks are still a little gray. I really love the display otherwise and would like to keep, but part of the reason I bought an LED is for the deep black levels. Any suggestions?

Your cable remote controller has an AUX button on it and when you plug the speakers into your cable box you can control the sound using the instruction on your cable remote controller.

There is also an audio button in the center of the remote control for the 42LN5300, by pushing the button you can walk through steps.

RE: 42LN5300

I recently purchased this model. Haven't hooked it up as yet. The box says only LEDTV - doesn't have HDTV anywhere on the box. My friends say that if it doesn't say HDTV on the packaging, that it probably isn't HD. So, what's the deal here?

We appreciate your interest in this television. The information you have received is mistaken. The fact of a television being High Definition (HD) has no association with a label. Being a High Definition television depends upon the native resolution of the screen. Any TV with a resolution higher than 720p, as well as a Digital High Definition tuner is, by definition, a High Definition television (HDTV). At this time, LG does not produce any consumer televisions without a digital tuner and a High Definition resolution. This particular model is manufactured with a 1080p native resolution, which is classified as a Full HD TV.

You picture is dark because of several reasons.
1. Your brightness setting is too low.
2. Your backlight setting is too low.
3. Your contrast setting is too high.
4. Your gamma setting is too high or too low.
5. Your color settings are too rich that it darkens the picture.

To remedy all of this you can call Best Buy or similar and as if they can calibrate your television for you and for what cost.

Or if you are able to navigate the settings button/picture and through all of the menus, this will take about 20 minutes, but truly a child that plays video games can do it.

Set your television to the following settings through the setting button and the succeeding menus:

We regret the inconvenience you have experienced with this television. Press the HOME button on the remote control, and select the SETUP icon, that looks like a gear. Use the directional arrows to scroll down to the OPTION menu. This is the icon that looks like a briefcase with a wrench on it. The first item on the next list is LANGUAGE. Press the ENTER button. In the next “pop-up” box, you will have two options. The first is MENU LANGUAGE. Use the LEFT/RIGHT directional arrows to change the language to ENGLISH. The second option is AUDIO LANGUAGE.

Question

The 42LN5300 has only a 60Hz refresh rate. Will this cause motion blur in this model or shoulkd I consider a model with a 120Hz refresh rate instead?

I am looking for a "Basic TV" set to replace my existing TV and the 42LN5300 was recommended by the salesperson. I am not interested in a lot of frills and extras, just a good basic TV.

The 60Hz rate looks fine to me. I don't notice any motion blur and all I use is satellite HD programming. This is a great tv if you're looking for just a basic HD TV. I bought this tv for that very same reason. I didn't want all the special 3D, smart TV, apps, etc. This was a perfect choice for me. Perfect size for the price!
