It connects to the Internet via Ethernet cable, but does not offer smart TV features, I.e. web browser, Netflix, etc. Network connection is for updates and Simplink. You can control other devices connected to the same network.

Question

On the 55 lm 4600, does the optical digital output transmit the full Digital Bitstream audio data? The 5.1 channel Dolby Digital.

I want to hook the Blue Ray player via HDMI to the TV, and then use the TV digital optical out to my audio receiver. However, will the TV output have the full Dolby Digital Bitstream from the Blue Ray? If not, then I cannot do this.

No. The TV cannot decode 5.1 DD. You have to connect blu ray playe directly to reciever to play movies in 5.1 DD. Also, connect TV to receiver via an optical audio cable to hear 5.1 DD from TV programs.

On my 55LM4600, Dolby Digital will transmit through the audio optical output via the over-the-air input, but the HDMI inputs get down sampled to LPCM, even when the speakers are set to off.

I too have seen this, I believe this is LG not taking up with supporting their products.
The upside is that if your television is connected to your local area network (LAN) your television will pick up any device that has sharing allowed on the same network.
E.G. laptop/desktop/hard-drive.

You can click on input and you will see My Media then the DNLA will pick it up and will be able to open available folders and view movies/pictures and even listen to music.

The same problems on my 55LM4600 went away after I installed the firmware update yesterday. No more ghost image, blurring and splittling screen. The firmware update was released in late Nov 2012 and you have to download it from the LG website and perform updating via the USB input on the TV. Note you need to follow the instructions provided to do it.

I have the same problem with my LG55LM4600 which is hooked up with a Sony BDP 590 Blu ray player. Beside the double screen issue, the 3D images becomes blurry (kind of ghost images) if I stop 3D movie from the blu ray player and switch the player to other functions such as music and then switch back to 3D movie. In such cases, I have to switch the TV from the blu ray input to TV mode (or other input) and then switch back to the blu ray input while the blu ray player is playing the 3D movie, then the 3D image becomes normal. I am not sure if this is TV defect or due to mismatch between the TV and blu ray player. I am going to try with a LG blu ray player and see if the same problems occur.

Mine does the same, haven't figured out why, it has a split screen one on the top & one on the bottom when the 3d blu-ray is loaded. I just press ok then the 3d button on my remote again then the dialog box pops up saying to get the best experience sit 2 meters away, when I press ok it does go to normal 3d full screen, but the 3d blu-rays that do this are very distorted & blurry, none of the settings can fix this, almost unwatchable, other blu-rays that don't do this when inserted are very clear with good quality, Madagascar 3 Europe's most wanted does this looks very bad almost unwatchable, Megamind,Shrek,&The Smurfs do this too but look good in 3d picture quality, hdmi/eithernet cable is used 1.4 ver unknown

As for the refresh rate I have not had any problems watching in 2D or 3D

Question

How to connect to speakers and receiver?

I just purchased this tv and I am not very tech / home theater inclined.

What is the easiest way to connect this tv (which is already connected to a cable box, a dvd player and an apple tv) to a home theater receiver (which has 2 speakers connected to it)?

Is there an easy way to do this, so the stereo speakers can play the sound output from the tv on all 3 hdmi's (cable / apple tv / dvd)?

Any help much appreciated - thanks!

Question

Is this TV truly 120HZ

Hello,

I am not expecting this to be answered, but thought I would try. I have read reviews that this TV is not actually a 120HZ Panel tv, but actually a 60HZ panel tv with the Truemotion. Is this true? Is the panel really only 60HZ, but LG claims it to be 120HZ because they use a "different" technology to fill images that don't really work? Please answer.

It is not a 120hz panel and while they advertise it with tru-motion, this TV does not have tru-motion either so it is not even tricking you into thinking you are watching a 120hz panel. If that is what interests then I would stay away. If you can live without that then otherwise it is a great TV.

According to our specifications, the panel on this television is designed for a refresh rate of 120Hz. The TruMotion feature does not contribute to the increased response time. It is designe simply to smooth the transition between the frames and the edges of the pictures. So, yes, this television actually is a 120Hz TV.

I have the same opinion regarding some movies. Honestly I think it's the movie and not the TV. I'm not sure how many movies you have played. I've seen some on Starz and HBO. There was one on Starz that was incredible. I wrote in a review that "Underworld Awakening" was so realistic I would move to avoid debris! My son and I were so mesmerized that we exclaimed, "Wow!" or "Oh my God!" every five minutes! Or less.

We watched "Resident Evil, Retribution 3d" and "Prometheus 3d" and there was a definite difference in the layering, perception effect.

I would give their customer service a call. I understand they are pretty good at walking people through issues that may arise. Good luck.

The appropriate setting for a video will change according to the disc and the recording method used. You might try using the 3D SETTINGS in the menu. Press the HOME button and select SETTINGS. Under the PICTURE menu, locate the 3D SETTINGS option and press ENTER. Check the 3D DEPTH and 3D VIEWPOINT. Sometimes, it may be necessary to utilize the 3D IMAGE CORRECTION, depending upon the video and its formatting.
