It is called the Easy Reach handle. It is to allow vertically challenged folks to grab the handle and pull it down easier. It is NOT a vent like others have said. If you notice the handle already has a vent in it.

Just purchased this washer a couple of weeks ago and we LOVE it. We recently had new cabinets installed in our laundry room. Since this washer is taller than the norm, the lid hit the bottom of the cabinets. When I found the 'unlock' feature on the washer lid we leave it unlocked all the time and it naturally folds when we open it and folds closed when we close the lid. Problem solved! We couldn't be happier with the washer and matching dryer.

The folding lid allows users to ventilate the drum of the washer; they can fold the lid to let air in without leaving the lid completely open.

Question

Can you wash smaller loads in this washer?

We are trying to decide on a new washer and dryer. I'm concerned about some reviews I've read about balance and having enough water in the washer. We are a family of two and some of our loads are not huge - for example our "whites" load is often fairly small.

I guess what I am really wondering is if this washer allows for adjusting load size.

Thanks!

No you can't wash smaller loads in this washer without have to clear the UV error every five minutes. I use HE detergent and I have to wash my black pants two or three times because I get white marks left on my pants from the detergent and not enough water in the rinse cycle. I keep on using less and less detergent and that doesn't seem to help. I've washed a full load of towels and have had the UV error come on. Don't purchase this washer! It can take up to two hours a load.

I have had this washer now for one month and I have a horrible time washing just one item or even less then 6 small items at a time. it keeps getting unbalanced. It also does not allow for adjusting load size, though supposedly it does so when it first starts each load by using a sensor.

"NO" Sorry to say this machine will not allow you to select the water level. I bought a WT11O1CW and returned it to the dealer because the machine will not cover my cloths with water (any size load) will not agitate the cloths to clean them, it takes the second rinse cycle to get all the detergent out. I used the HE detergent to try one rinse cycle but did not help. We have not talked about the "UE" code that you will get almost all of the time which is an UNBALANCED LOAD. This machine will not spin the cloths unless they are all lined up perfectly. You will need to rearrange the cloths to suite the machine. It took me 2 hours to wash a heavy load because the machine would not spin the load. Don't waste your money on this product it don't work.

Hi Gardnerfran!

You can not adjust the load size unfortunately. It's also just me and my hubs and we run into the same problem. I try to justify the water waste with the energy savings :/ or clean not so dirty items to fill the drum up a bit.

Question

Always Off Balance Cycles

I've had this machine for over 3 weeks.
It has never been able to complete a cycle without going off balance - "UE".
I always have to power it off and select a plain rinse cycle to rinse the clothes then remove the clothes after the spin and just before it goes "UE".

Is this a known issue with this washer ?
If so, what can be done to fix it ?
Thank you

I have also had this machine for 3 weeks. I have NEVER done a single load without it being "UE". Since seeing all the other complaints I am sure this is a known issue with this washer. As far as the "expert" saying it may need repair, does that mean that everyone on this sight with a problem received a defective machine? They were bought new so they shouldn't all need repair within the first few weeks! I believe this is a known problem that was never acknowledged. I was told that I only had 48 hours to return my machine to Home Depot. I am now stuck with a washer that I must rearrange the clothes no less than 6 times per load. The only way to get them PERFECTLY balanced would be to weigh them once they are wet & then distribute them in the tub accordingly!! This machine is awful. Everyone with a complaint please contact LG. Also please pass the word on your social media sites and by word of mouth. I don't want anyone else to go through this agony!!

We have had this washer for 5 weeks, one week too many according to Sears as now we cannot return it. It has not completed one single load with out going out of balance. each load takes 4-5 hours to complete due to always being out of balance, with a family of 7 there is no way we can continue with this washer and Sears won't take it back. Yes Consumer Reports has it top rated, I have always gone with CR, first time ever they were VERY wrong, don't buy it

Sorry, to say this machine soaks the cloths instead of agitating them clean. Soaking will not clean them. When spinning the load it will set a "UE" code unbalanced load just about all of the time. My LG WT1101CW was so bad I brought it back to the dealer and bought one that worked. It tool me 2 hours to wash a load really.

I'm fairly certain that the control panel is water resistant. Meaning that as long as you just spill things on it and don't somehow immerse the entire panel under water, it should be fine. I know I've spilled water and things on the panel of mine before and haven't had any problems. Hope this helps!

Question

Can I still use my home made detergent?

I make a detergent with baking soda, borax, washing soda, and grated bar soap (such as fels-naptha). It is very low-to-non sudsing. Is this safe to use in this machine? This detergent works great and is much cheaper than store-bought products. Also, I like knowing it has no chemicals, fragrances, or dyes.

Only HE (high efficiency) detergent can be used with this washer. Using too much detergent can result in detergent buildup in clothing and the washer. When usin powder detergent you have to remove the insert and liquid detergent from the compartment. HE detergent produce fewer suds, dissolve more efficiently to improve washing and rinsing performance.

HE stands for High Efficiency. The detergent is the same price as regular detergent. Your favorite brands of detergent make HE detergent too. You just need to make sure on the front of the bottle it has the tiny HE logo. But with this particular washer it is highly recommended to use HE and not regular detergent.

Question

Is the water supposed to cover the clothes? Are the clothes supposed to move during the cycle?

Every wash I have done the clothes are never covered with water, last night I watched it wash clothes for 25 minutes and some of the clothes were still dry on top. The clothes that are on the top when I load it are still on top at the end of the cycle aren't the clothes supposed to move around ? I'm no rocket scientist, but if the clothes don't move and they are dry how will they get clean??

We regret the inconvenience you have experienced with this washing machine. According to our information, it is not uncommon for the water not to rise above the level of the clothing. The unit is designed to agitate the clothing items from beneath, and also move the entire tub in ways that are sometimes not readily noticeable; yet cleaning still occurs. The water is powered through the fabrics during some of the spinning cycles. If you have additional questions about this matter, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

"YES" it will get off balance all of the time. This machine is a pretty piece of junk. It will never work properly. I returned mine to the store and bought one that works.

Where do you put the detergent in?

Does it go into with the clothes? Or is there a second alternative spot for it?

There is a slide-out tray under the lid of the washer that will allow you to place dry or liquid detergent. You then slide it back in and start your wash. I don't recommend this, but I once forgot to slide the tray back in, and it still started the wash cycle and I was able to pause the cycle about 5 minutes into it, slide it back into place and it washed as usual. The water had entered the wash over the liquid detergent, and no harm was done.

I use the tide pods and I just drop them in the bottom before I place the clothes in. I took my son to glow in the dark bowling and couldn't see any spots on his clothes that the soap didn't get completely rinsed out like my old washing machine.

I corrected this problem by:
> Never use inexpensive house brand liquid He detergents and use sparingly.
> I have had great experience with Dropps clear detergent packs.
> Select COLD not TAP COLD.
> Select LOW or MEDIUM spin, never high.
> Select EXTRA RINSE.
The white streaks on your darks will be gone for evermore.

From what we were told the water is moved thru the clothes with jets as the tub rotates. Also if there is residue on the dark clothes it might be from too much soap. Because of the way they clean it uses less soap and does better with the HE detergent. At least that is what we have found works best. It does not take much at all to wash a large load of clothes.

The tub, on our top loading washing machines, have multiple agitation methods which take place during the wash cycle. The water can fill from beneath, and on certain cycles, such as the COTTON/NORMAL and HEAVY DUTY cycles, will use the SmartRinse with Jet Spray. If these do not resolve the situation, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

Question

Washing water-proof or water-resistant clothing

Why can't I wash my jackets that are water-resistant? Like Columbia shells etc? This is absurd. How will it ruin the washer or my jackets? Do ALL LG top load washers have this caution?

Although LG says NO, due to unbalancing issues, I have had luck using the following procedure for similar items. Select BULKY/BEDDING that provides the most water in tub. Select your preferences for all other options EXCEPT select NO SPIN. When machine stops remove all items and shake off excess water. I place an old bath towel on the floor to catch any water drippings. I place all items back in washer, including the floor towel, balancing all sides of the tub based on wet weight. Select SPIN ONLY. Dry items based on clothing label.

Yes, all of our LG Top Load Washing machines carry this warning and restriction. The speeds reached by the spin cycles of this washer can cause damage to the machine when a water resistant material is added.

Question

Is the SOAK option a presoak?

The manual for WT1101CW says that the soak will happen sometime before the end of the cycle. But, when, exactly? What I am looking for is a presoak that happens before the normal wash cycle begins.

We appreciate your interest in the operations of this washing machine. The SOAK cycle provides an extra 30 minutes before the washing begins. You may see some slight agitation during this time.

Question

Is it normal for some shaking when spinning?

Noticed the washer shakes when spinning and load sensing. Have only done 2 loads so far, one on medium spin and another on low spin. The washer is leveled and the flooring is cement.

Use a level and level as instructions show. Multiple items spins best. A large item has a tendency to clump to one side. When balanced the machine will not shake even at 1100 rpm it's supposed to turn.
