Question

Poor Easy Rack Design

When will LG design a clip that can keep the tines in a permanent upright position? My wife and I are very frustrated with dishes falling over when the row of tines on the bottom rack do not stay up. I have many LG products from TVs to kitchen appliances and am extremely satisfied with them except for this one issue with the rack design. In theory, it seems like a good idea to be able to adjust the tines, but reality is a different story. Had we read the similar reviews on this issue, we would not have purchased this product.

Question

How do I clean the plastic handle?

I did not realize that this appliance's handle was not actually stainless steel (like the stove, microwave and fridge we also purchased) and I got stainless steel cleaner on it. The cleaner made the plastic all cloudy - it looks terrible. Is there any way to clean this? Why does the unit have a plastic handle when all other appliances have stainless? Is there a way to get a replacement handle if this can't be cleaned?

We regret the inconvenience you have experienced with the handle on this appliance. If the handle finish is cloudy, then it may be recommended to wash it with hot water and a mild detergent. If this does not resolve the matter, then the handle can certainly be replaced. Accessories can be obtained through our parts distributor, MCM Electronics. Their contact number, for placing orders, is 800-824-9491. You can also use their website, at http://www.mcmelectronics.com/conte.... The part number for this Door Handle is MEB41413201.

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this dishwasher. What materials are used for the dishes being washed? To what temperature is your water heater set? Is a rinse aid being used? Plastic dishes do not dry as readily as glass or porcelain. The water temperature must be received at 120 degrees for proper drying performance. It is also recommended to ensure that a rinse aid is in use for proper operations. Please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 to troubleshoot this matter further.

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this dishwasher. An E1 Error Code is typically displayed if there is excessive spin speed of the motor during the wash cycle due to water leakage. The unit will likely require service. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000, or you can check our Repair Provider Lookup on our website, at http://www.lg.com/us/support/repair....

Question

Water Spots

I just had my dishwasher installed in January, and no matter where I put them I get water spots on my glasses. They are clearly spots where the rack is touching the glass, and look like they may also have residue from the detergent or the Finish rinse. What am I doing wrong? I'm feel like I'm losing my mind, and getting really frustrated, I must be missing something. In the meantime, I'm ruining my glasses.

I switched to liquid Cascade and don't fill the soap cup all the way full. There is also an adjustment on the amount of rinsing agent that is dispensed. It is located on the opening where you add the rinsing agent. I've set my machine to use a second rinse. Also make sure nothing is hindering the spray arms from turning.

Question

Is there an extender for the lower rack tines?

My dishes on the lower rack fall forward when the rack is pushed into the machine. They are loaded facing the center of the rack. I'm afraid they are going to get chipped. Are there extenders I can purchase to cover and lengthen the tines so the dishes will be held more securely in an upright position?

I don't know of any, but you could try plastic drinking straws. You can cut them to the length you want. You may need to try different brands to get the correct diameter you need. I haven't done it to the bottome tines, but I bent the tines in the top rack for my bowls. Not sure what LG would say if I had a warranty issue, but the racks were almost useless without altering their angle. It's possible to do that to the bottom rack too, but again the warranty issue is up to you. Straws might do the trick.

I have switched to liquid detergent. LG tips says to make sure you don't load large items directly in front of the detergent pocket, as it will block the spray from getting to the detergent. Things like a cookie sheet or a large bowl could block it. LG also says to run your hot water faucet in the sink when you turn the machine on so hot water will be available to the dishwasher from the start and not have to wait for the water to get hot.

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this dishwasher and its detergent compartment. It is suggested to clean the dispenser cup and ensure that there is nothing within the cup to which the detergent might cling. It is also recommended to check the incoming water temperature. If the incoming water temperature is not at least 120 degrees, the detergent may not all be activated and dissolved. If this does not resolve the matter, then the unit may require service. We had the same problem and as a result, have not been able to properly level the unit. As a result, the front of the unit does not line up straight with the cabinets, but it is close.

I don't have an answer other than removing the unit, guessing at the rear height and then leveling it with the front legs. We haven't done that, but may be a project in the future unless someone comes up with a better idea.

Question

Why does my dishwasher make a squeeling sound randomly throughout cycle?

I have owned this dishwasher since November and had not had problems with it. A few days ago it started making a squealing sound randomly throughout the cycle. One cycle it lasted almost the entire time and the next it was here and there. It isn't terribly loud but noticeable. I purchased this new dishwasher because our old one was loud. Any idea of what this may be or how to resolve it? I already turned down the washer pressure thinking that may have been it and no fix.

Question

Loud whistling sound?

My dishwasher started making a whistling sound 3 months after purchase. It is so loud it hurts my ears. I called LG and they said Sears has a service agreement with them, but Sears refuses to fix the problem and said its normal (even though it just started doing it). To make things even more stupid, I have a purchase return plan through my credit card company and they refused my claim because they said its not in working condition!
I am very close to backing my truck up into the front doors of sears and dumping this piece of junk on their floor and telling them its their problem, and returning the 3 other LG appliances I bought last week to Home Depot and rebuying my kitchen appliances under a different brand!

Are there complaints about the no drying feature?

We purchased an LG dishwasher yesterday. It has not been delivered. I am considering cancelling the purchase because of the negative comments about the "no dry" cycle.
a) Why is there no dry cycle?
b) Are the dishes truly dry, streak free etc without the dry cycle?

Please understand I do not want to own any appliance that is not efficient, easy upkeep and meets my expectations.

We regret the uncertainty you have experienced with this dishwasher order. According to page 13 of your owner’s manual, the only cycles which do not use a DRY cycle are the QUICK wash and the RINSE ONLY cycles. All other cycles have and use a DRY cycle, which utilizes our Hybrid Condensing Drying System. This dishwasher is very efficient in its operation, qualifying the unit for an Energy Star certification. We would be more than happy to discuss this matter further, should you have need.
