Does the SP520 have amazon instant video as a premium service

There are pictures of amazon video on the site with the unit but I've read conflicting reports. Also does it have media link access? Not just DLNA, but the actual LG media link app.

No, Amazon is not supported according to a recent communication with LG Support, they said they had not reached an agreement with Amazon thus that feature was not available.

As of 11/26/2012, the Amazon Instant Video app has been removed. However, LG Customer Service says it will be available by the end of November 2012.

You can browse via CIFS or DLNA. CIFS will require logging into your server with a user id and password, DLNA does not. However, as of 11/26/2012, it appears the CIFS access may be broken. I tried connecting to a Synology DS-212j NAS and could only view top level folders. Any type of folder drill down resulted in a network error.

I am not sure how to answer your question on a "media link app". LG Customer Service says either Nero or Plex needs to be installed on the serving device in order to access media outside of DLNA. This also will explain why you may experience issues when trying to view folders and files by CIFS. If your referring to a "media link app" that will access media content on the internet (i.e. CNET video, USTREAM, etc.), it does not access these sites at this time.

I called the number provided. They advised a software upgrade would restore this feature at an unspecified future date but hopefully by end of November.

A software "upgrade" removed this most useful app. The upgrade was automatic. I have not been able to revert. I only bought this because of Amazon video.

When the unit is first plugged in the red light comes on and the LG logo is displayed but then the unit shuts down. Be sure to use the remote control to turn the unit on after you plug it in.

NO, unless you want to use the complete useless dlna option. Simple CIFS and SMB connection is simply to hard implement for the no-good programmers. Too bad since the product is 95% complete - they just forgot CIFS and SMB, leaving NAS users in the dark.

Question

CIFS shares have network errors

All the CIFS shares on my home network does not seem to work, showing the message "A network error occurred". DLNA server shares are working fine. Hard-reset or factory reset didn't help. This cannot be a Windows setup issue, since my other LG BD (670) player can access them without any problems, and one of the CIFS shares is just "public" at NAS that doesn't require windows setup. CIFS access is really needed for external subtitle file support.

We regret the inconvenience you have experienced with this device. In reviewing our owner’s manual and specification sheet, this device does not appear to be compatible with CIFS networks, as it is with DLNA file sharing. We recommend the use of DLNA file sharing formatting with the use of this device.

I have a 500 GB USB hard drive. Can I play videos from it? Also, many of the videos are .mpeg4 V2, which my LG 47LH90 cannot read. Can I play them through the SP520?

We regret the inconvenience you have experienced with this device. The specifications for the Smart TV Upgrader state compatibility with USB keyboards. This is not a compatibility with a WIRELESS keyboard; even one connected by a USB plug. We recommend using a keyboard that physically connects to the unit using a USB cable.
