There are several options available for gentler operations for this unit. The cycle to be used will depend upon what cleaning options you desire. While there may not be a specific DELICATE cycle, you may use the BABY WEAR or the WOOL cycles. You may also take one of the other cycles and use the MODIFIER buttons to reduce the spin speed or the water temperature. If you have additional questions about this matter, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

Question

Why did the washer use so much water on the permanent press/casual cycle?

I washed one pair of twill pants and 3 shirts in the permanent press/casual cycle. I couldn't believe how much water it used. The tub filled to within about 5 inches from the top during the rinse (but also too much water in the wash). There was so much water than I could barely see the clothes. I have a water softener that displays the amount of water that was used, and for just the rinse cycle, it used 30 gallons of water! Is there something wrong with my washer?

A water softener extends the life of water-using appliances because it reduces or eliminates the build-up of lime, scale, etc. also called mineral deposits. Softened water extends the life of plumbing systems, such as water heaters, for the same reason. The proper solution to having a water softener, which can potentially lead to excessive suds, is to reduce the amount of detergent. In the case of this particular incident, so much water was used in the wash that there was not even a tiny bit of suds. The rinse was so thorough, a record low must have been set for the amount of detergent left in the water. I have had this washer for less than 1 week and ran 4 loads -- towels, cotton/normal, permanent press, and wool. Is this brand new machine malfunctioning? I would think so. I will run a few more loads and then reassess the functioning of this machine. Best Buy has a 30-day return policy and I do not want to be stuck with a washer that is already not working correctly. I prefer to start with a new washer that is functioning properly. Funny how that is.

answer 2
This does seem that the unit is using more water than intended. However, the amount of water that often gets used is related to the amount of rinsing required to remove all the suds from the wash. We do not recommend using a water softener, as this will cause an increase of suds that can be detrimental to the unit. It is recommended to try deactivating the water softener, and then trying a similar load for testing and comparing. If the unit continues to use so much water, then it may require service. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000, or you can check our Repair Provider Lookup on our website, at http://www.lg.com/us/support/repair....

Question

Can you use Tide Pods in this washer?

Since this washer is different than most, I was wondering if you could use these laundry detergent packs. If so, where do you place them? Their package says to place them in the drum before adding clothes, but I am unsure if I should add them there or use the detergent tray (not recommended per their packaging). Thanks!

As long as the pods are marked as '(HP)" "High performance laundry soap", you can use them by dropping them in. BUT, do not use any detergent that is not marked "HP" otherwise you will get to much suds and the clothes will not rinse or be cleaned properly.

I apologize, but no; it is not recommended to use packet or tab washing detergent. The manufacturer recommends the use of a liquid or powdered detergent in the appropriate detergent cup in order for the unit to be able to dispense the detergent and other additives at the appropriate time during the wash cycle.

No external drip pan is included. Actually, in over 50 years of playing with washing machines. Yes they did have them 50 years ago. I only had the need for a drip pan once, and then it would not have helped much because the hot water hose came apart from age and shot water about 4-8 feet flooding the wee apartment I was in at the time. So, check them hoses after a few years.

Yes, pillows can be washed in this Top Load washing machine. First, be certain to review the care requirements on the pillow tags. Use the Bulky/Bedding cycle for items such as pillows, comforters and other articles which have difficulty absorbing water. ONLY WASH SMALL LOADS to make sure there is plenty of room for the load to move during washing. Keep like items together; do not mix large bulky items with smaller clothing items. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the clothing or to the washer.

While the bleach is supposed to dispense at the appropriate time during the cycle, and is scheduled for the water to run through the dispenser twice, in order to rinse the dispenser, it is not uncommon for some water to remain in the dispenser when the cycle is complete. Question

why won't the washer fill over the level of the clothes?

Every time I wash a load of clothes, I have to press the 'extra rinse' button so that the washer will fill with more water. No matter which setting I use, the washer doesn't fill enough to cover the clothes and some items never get wet. Only when the spin cycle begins do the top items get wet and only because the water is forced back through the clothes. Is there something I can do to correct this?

We regret your displeasure with the operation of the washing machine. This is actually normal operation. The washer is designed to use less water than your standard top load washing machine. It will be unlikely to see standing water over the clothing, and the water is supposed to be forced through the fabrics during the different parts of the cycle.

Use this option to eliminate using the built-in water heater booster. For maximum efficiency, wash only small loads (less than 8 pounds). If you select STAIN CARE, the COLDWASH option will not be available. Also, when you select the COLDWASH option, the wash time will be increased up to 10 minutes.
