Question

Washer not filing up with water properly?

I just recently bought this product after years of using an old traditional washer and dryer set and I am just wondering if the irregularly timed spurts of what I believe to be moisture is normal for these new washers or if there is a problem with my water hose connection. I would very much appreciate an answer.

Many who've never used front-loaders don't understand their principles of operation. There may be a video or other tutorial available online at LG which may be helpful. Front loaders are more efficient because they use less water and detergent. What you are seeing in your machine is normal. It is the machine adding water in the very least amounts and at the optimal points in the cycle to get you the best results.

Additionally, be sure you use the prescribed amount of only HE-rated detergent. It is not recommended to use regular old-fashioned detergent like you used in your top-loader, because that stuff produces too many suds and defeats the cleaning principles of front-loaders. This is the one big fact that front-load newbies have trouble getting around. If you must use up some old detergent that isn't HE-rated, cut WAY down on the amount you are used to using! Then go buy HE next time.

From your description, it seems that this unit should be operating properly. The wash cycle will add water and adjust the load until it is properly balanced, and will do so automatically. If you have questions about the operation of the unit, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

Question

How much HE detergent should I use per load?

We just bought the 3470 model washer. The salesman at the store said to only use 2 tablespoons per load, 3 tablespoons if it is badly soiled load. I was shocked at this. I usually use the top line of the cap that comes on the detergent bottle. Can you please clear this up for me and advise me what the right amount is to use. Thank you

If you are using liquid detergent the cup in the detergent drawer has a 'normal' marker. Fill to the bottom of that marker and you're fine. You should be using HE detergent. My experience is that the marker for that is about half a capful.

We appreciate your interest in this washing machine and its proper care. The information you have been provided is correct. The typical measurements listed on the bottle are for a traditional top load washing machine, which uses much more water than this unit.

Question

We're rebuilding our laundry and have ordered the washer/dryer WM3470HWA/DLGX3471W, our electrician wants to know where the power cords are located?

The area is being rewired, so he is looking to put an outlet about waist height to feed both stacked washer/gas dryer, but wants to be sure this is feasible, or whether because of the location/length of the cords there will need to be a high/low set of outlets here.

I would follow whatever the detergent manufacturer recommends. I use Tide HE and it says fill the scooper up to the "1" or "2" line depending on the load size.

How much detergent depends on the load size, soil level of clothing, and even how soft the water is. Depending on these factors, amounts can vary from the amount recommended on the container of HE detergent, to as little as 2 tablespoons. Start with the recommended amount. If suds are seen, reduce the amount on the next load.

I was told to put powdered laundry boosters directly into the washing machine before adding clothes. Seems to work for me. I use about 1/3 cup of baking soda plus about 1/4 cup of oxyclean powder. I don't find residue so figure I am doing it "right." Good luck!

This washing machine was developed for HE products only. It is not recommended to use any product in this washing machine unless it is specified for use with HE laundry devices. If it gives instructions on HE product usage, then follow those directions. If it does not, then we do not recommend using the product.

There are two types of Cold choices: Cold and Tap Cold.
I don't select Tap Cold. I do use liquid HE detergent but add Oxyclean powder to the inside of the drum before adding my clothes, and this seems to dissolve in the wash cycle and do its thing. My opinion is that this is not an issue.

Question

Does this machine have a small load setting (like the WM4070 does) and what's the benefit of having it? Can't I wash small loads with the WM3470?

Or could I just wash a small load (e.g. 3 shirts) and the automatic load sensing would adjust the water levels accordingly anyway? Why do other same or slightly larger capacity machines offer a small load program but the 3470 doesn't seem to need it? I feel it might be helpful when I don't have full loads...yes? no?

The washer will automatically adjust water level and wash time based on the detected load in the drum at the start of the wash cycle. So, you don't need to worry about the size of the load. The machine will adjust accordingly. Be mindful that if you pause the machine after it has started to wash and add more clothing, I don't think it will re-adjust for the new volume. I would suggest that you not add a huge amount of clothing after the wash cycle has started. Be aware YOU must supply the appropriate amount of detergent for a given wash load. Be sure to read the instructions. I imagine that most people use entirely too much detergent when they wash.

There are a few different mode you could use for those small loads:
- DELICATES for dress shirts/blouses, nylons, sheer or lacy garment (~41 min)
- HAND WASH/WOOL for items labeled “hand-washable (~55 min)
- SPEED WASH for lightly soiled clothing and small loads (~15 min short)

Are you sure you are using the correct amount and that it is HE detergent? Many people unfamiliar with front loaders don't seem to understand the principles of operation. You cannot use regular detergent unless you use a VERY minimal amount. Oversudsing is the bane of front-loaders. Use only the prescribed amount of low-sudsing HE-rated detergent.

I'm looking at my user manual and you have; Extra High, High, Medium, Low and No Spin, so plenty of choices. I haven't seen a reference to RPMs. First thing, I threw my Cal King comforter in it and it did a great job. No light in the washer. If you're anything like me after you get it, you will be spending too much time in front of the glass door with a flashlight watching your clothes get wet and tossed around.

Diameter of drain hose for WM3470HWA

I am planning to purchase this washer. A customer's question was answered by 'LG Answers' stating that the drain hose for this model was 6 ft. long and 4" diameter. Question

why does my machine vibrate during the spin cycle while washing jeans

I wash a load of jeans or towels under the cotton setting and the whole thing vibrates and makes a horrible noise, and takes over an 1 1/2 hours to wash, since it's trying to balance the load.
But when I wash them under the bulky setting it doesn't get them dry enough and they spend 2+hours in the dryer. I had a repair guy out and could not find anything wrong. Is this normal? What setting should I use to wash towels and Jeans and sometimes my kids clothes?

answer 2
We regret the trouble you have experienced with this washing machine. It is difficult to determine specifically what might cause a product to be off balance, as load sizes and usage will vary from load to load and user to user. The default settings for this washing machine show that the COTTON/NORMAL cycle uses a HIGH spin speed, while a BULKY setting can only use, at the most, a MEDIUM spin speed. Depending upon the load size and distribution, this alone could make a difference. Some setting adjustments could help in this matter. If you continue to have difficulties with this washer, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 for additional troubleshooting.
