Question

Does the Washer Model #WM2650 have a spin cycle only?

I hand wash many items and would like the option to spin the water out without rinsing. Does this front load washer have that option? Thank you.

I think you will enjoy using the Hand Wash/Wool cycle on this machine instead of the extra steps required to wash your items by hand then spin the excess water out in the machine.

As a handknitter, hand spinner, and fiber artist I used to hand wash wool, cashmere, and other shrinkable washable fibers, and spin the excess water out in my top load washing machine, just as you have described. For years I was hesitant to make the switch to a front load machine because of all the hand washing I do. On the recommendation of two fiber artist friends who own LG front load washing machines, I finally made the switch to a front loader. I'm so happy to let the Hand Wash/Wool cycle take complete care of washing my shrinkable clothing now.

The Hand Wash/Wool cycle on this machine truly is as gentle to my shrinkable fibers as if I washed them by hand. I just make sure to select Cold water for the wash instead of the default Warm water, as the rinse water is always Cold (to avoid temperature shock and fulling/felting). I do use Warm water wash with wool items treated to be machine washable/superwash, though.

The first few times I used the Hand Wash/Wool cycle, I actually sat in front of the machine to see how it worked. Mostly the garments soak in some water at the bottom of the tub, then periodically the tub makes a partial turn with just enough rotation to gently flip the garments over in the water, much like I would give fabrics a "swish" now and then with my hands when washing shrinkable garments in a sink or basin.

I have detected no shrinkage or fulling/felting with washable wool, cashmere, and silk sweaters and accessories (as well as knitting yarn in mesh bags) when using the Hand Wash/Wool cycle with Cold/Cold wash/rinse temperatures in this machine. I am so happy to not have to wash multiple tiny loads by hand anymore, or babysit my old top loader when soaking/spinning large amounts of feltable fibers.

Additionally, I have been thrilled to be able to speed-dry a still-damp shrinkable wool item in my LG gas dryer using the rack accessory and Rack Dry cycle. If an item is still too damp to wear after air-drying flat overnight, I just place it flat on the rack inside the dryer and set the dryer on low or ultra low heat, sometimes pausing the cycle to turn the item over once. It's fresh and dry in less than an hour and ready for wearing, without shrinkage or any problems.

Question

Noise level from drain pump

I bought this washer a month ago and noticed it is quite noisy during the rinse and spin cycle. When the washer is during rinse or spin cycle, there is a loud humming sound on and off. The menu says there is a humming sound from the drain pump. But it is a bit too loud and I don't know if that is normal. I put a video clip on youtube to show the sound level during rinse/spin cycle and you can hear besides the sound of the spinning drum there is another humming sound on and off. Can anyone comment compared with his/her own washer or upload a video clip to I can compare? Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for the suggestion! It was during non-steam cycle. Also I am not sure what sound level a normal drain pump sounds like and would not like to pay a fee if the service person says the sound level is normal (was told a fee will be charged if they find no problem).

If it happens when you have selected of the steam cycles then I believe it is the steam unit that makes the sound rather than the drain pump. Try a non steam cycle to confirm.

The washing machine is designed to play a melody when the wash cycle if finished. The buttons make a sound each time a button is pressed. The melody and button tones can be turned off, as desired, by pressing and holding the WATER PLUS button for 3 seconds, during the wash cycle. This information can be found on page 27 of the owner’s manual.

I don't think there is a set number. It will depend upon the sizes of your jeans and towels. ( I know that doesn't help alot) I usually just put what I feel is enough for the machine. You will get a feel for it after a couple times of loading. If you put to much fabic into the machine it will stop and display an error message that it is off balance. I had a top loading machine before this one (large capacity) and I know I fit at least 3 or more towels at a time with this washer. Though I haven't tried to over do it, can't afford to break this machine.

For this machine you should only use High-Efficiency detergents. The detergent package will be labeled [HE]. High-Efficiency detergents produce fewer suds, dissolve better and help keep the washer interior clean.

There are many brands of HE detergents and they come in both liquid and powder; whichever you prefer. The detergent you use now may be high-efficiency - check the package. For years I've used a Sears product - Sears Ultra Plus Concentrated Powdered HE detergent.

Good Luck

I have only the washer. It did a great job on my large LL Bean "Side Sleeper" pillow. I used the Bulky/Large cycle but am sure that, especially with only one or two pillows, any cycle would work as well; making sure they can safely handle "special" settings such as "steam" or "extra hot" water.

I only wash 5 pair at a time because they are very heavy when wet and can become unbalanced and to heavy for the machine to work properly.
It's normal to see no water. Maybe a few suds at the bottom of the glass door section and you are doing fine. The system is made to use less water. They will also come out dryer than you may be used to in the past.

Yes, this is normal operation. In our LG High Efficiency Front Load washing machines, it is normal for there to be no visible standing water over the level of clothing. There is still water in the drum, and the clothes are still getting clean.

Question

What, exactly, is the "Forced drain system" om WM2650H machines?

Does it "completely" drain the machine so the "stink" assiciated with front load machies is eliminated?

I don't exactly know what the "Forced drain system" is, but I have this machine and have had it for 6 months and it does sometimes retain water like most front loaders. I think what it does at the end of a cycle is spin at a really high speed to force the water to the outsides of the cylinder, but then once it is in the front rubber seal at the loader door, sometimes it doesn't all go out of the drains and being a woman with long hair, if any of my hair ends up in that drain it gets caught in the rubber seal as well. It's annoying, but I just wipe out hair and debris after each load with a paper towel and when I'm not using the washer I leave the door open to make sure no mildew builds up. I hope this answers your question...

I assume it depends on the temperature setting for your domestic hot water. Because we have no young children, I keep ours quite high so the dishwasher and clothes washer heaters have to be activated rarely if at all. It would be nice to know what the LG machines consider "hot" water.

The water heater, in this unit, is designed for raising the water temperature for the EXTRA HOT and STEAM cycles. The regular HOT and WARM temperatures are simply heated by the water coming in from the regular water valves.

I just measured this washer that was recently installed and it's just under 39, so it must be 38 7/8. You can also adjust each of the four feet to make it perfectly level, ( up and down ) so I would imagine that you could spin all the feet to the closest possible position - close to the bottom cabinet if necessary.

The water is drawn from a small plastic container inside a drawer in the top-left side of the the unit's front side. The container or bottle can be removed for easy filling or simply just pour a cup of water through the top of the containers opening which by the way has a built-in mesh screen for filtering.

No, the washer is designed to run cold water for the rinse cycle. It may simply feel warm from the mix of HOT and COLD water used in most cycles. The other option could be that the water lines are connected backward. Please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 for additional troubleshooting of this situation.
