The second icemaker is in the freezer. It produces more and larger cubes than the door icemaker and drops them into a bin that takes up about a third of the top drawer. For increased ice production, you can activate a 'boost' setting on the front panel that drops the freezer temp by a few degrees to make ice faster for the next 24 hours...pretty cool.

Both temperatures can be set on the front control panel. Just touch the 'freezer' or 'refrigerator' buttons to activate the setting program and keep tapping the button to get to the desired temp.

According to the information in the owner’s manual, on page 22, adjust the temperature in the REFRIGERATOR compartment by pressing the REFRIGERATOR button. When the temperature setting gets to the limit of its cycle, it will start over at the cycle’s other extremity. The operation of the FREEZER is performed in the same fashion, with the FREEZER button.

It is not normal for frost to build up, as this refrigerator was designed with an automatic defrost feature. If a large amount of frost is building up, it is likely that humid air is leaking into the cabinet. For such a situation, the unit will need to be inspected by a licensed service technician. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000, or you can check our Repair Provider Lookup on our website, at http://www.lg.com/us/support/repair....

While I know that the above answer is quoted verbatim from the user's manual, it is largely unhelpful in equipping the average buyer with knowledge necessary for purchase.

My current fridge produces 180 cubes of ice. From the above, one might assume that this fridge produces and stores more ice than mine. But one would be wrong. My ice cubes weigh approximately 0.6 oz each, for a total tray capacity of 6.75 lbs of ice. I presume that the cubes in this fridge must be markedly smaller for 120 cubes to fit in such a small tray.

So the core question remains unanswered ... "... what is the storage capacity of the upper and lower ice maker?" I require 4 - 4.5 lbs of ice to make 1 gallon of iced tea, and require my fridge be capable of producing this without manual assistance.

Automatic Icemaker (Door)
Ice is made in the automatic icemaker and sent to the dispenser.
The icemaker will produce 12 cubes per cycle—
approximately 120 cubes in a 24-hour period, depending
on freezer compartment temperature, room temperature,
number of door openings and other operating conditions.
- It takes about 12 to 24 hours for a newly installed refrigerator
to begin making ice. Wait 72 hours for full ice
production to occur.
- Ice making stops when the in-door ice bin is full. When
full, the in-door ice bin holds approximately 6 to 8 (12-16
oz) glasses of ice.
- The water pressure must be between 20 and
125 psi on models without a water filter and between
40 and 125 psi on models with a water filter to produce
the normal amount

Automatic Icemaker (Freezer Room)
Ice is made in the automatic icemaker and sent to the dispenser.
The icemaker will produce 12 cubes per cycle—
approximately 100 cubes in a 24-hour period, depending
on freezer compartment temperature, room temperature,
number of door openings and other operating conditions.
- It takes about 12 to 24 hours for a newly installed refrigerator
to begin making ice.
- The water pressure must be between 20 and
125 psi on models without a water filter and between
40 and 125 psi on models with a water filter to produce
the normal amount and size of
ice cubes.

We have had problems with the ice maker stopping to produce ice. We have shut it off and back on and it may or may not start making ice again. It is strange it seems intermitently and we can determine why. Can you please help with this confusing problem. We have the three door model with a water dispenser as well.

We regret the inconvenience you have experienced with this refrigerator. It takes about 12 to 24 hours for a newly installed refrigerator to begin making ice. Make sure that the freezer temperature is such that ice might freeze, and be certain that the power switch on the side of the ice maker has been activated.

FF on the display means the fridge is in store display mode and won't cool at all! Open the doors of the fridge then press and hold the Refrigerator and Ice Plus buttons at the same time for 5 seconds. It will beep and the temp setting should then show the temp and start cooling.

answer 2
The error message ER FF is a Freezer Fan Error message. This can be caused by the fan motor failing, or it could be a frost/ice build up around the fan blades preventing it from running properly. This error can be resolved by unplugging the refrigerator for about 4 hours, allowing it to thaw. Once the moisture is dried up, reconnect the unit and allow it to fully cool before returning the contents. If the error message returns, then the unit will likely require service. We appreciate your interest in and pleasure with our LG refrigerators. Unfortunately, without the part number of the shelf in question, we have no way to determine if one is available, or if it will be compatible with the refrigerator you are currently using. It is likely that the shelf is designed more for a 20 cu ft to 25 cu ft model fridge. The interior dimensions of a 28 cu ft refrigerator could vary enough to where the shelf will not fit.

Question

LFX28979ST French Door Refrigerator?

Regarding my last question about a drop down shelf on the above mentioned french door refrigerator. It is available on the other LG 28 cu ft. refrigerator. The only difference with the 2 refrigerators is that the one I purchased has the dual ice makers. I have no idea where I would find out the product number for the drop down shelf, that's why I was asking you at LG. Thanks for your time.

Question

What do the codes "ER" and "IF" Mean on display?

Refrigerator displays "er" and "if" on display after approx. 12-24 hrs of connecting power and will not dispense water or make ice at that point. When refrigerator is unplugged for 10-20 seconds, the display returns to normal and water will dispense. Again, after 12-24 hours the codes appear on display again and water will no longer dispense but the ice maker will not fill with water or make ice. What is the problem and how do I correct it? This is a brand new refrigerator.

We appreciate your interest in this refrigerator. The ER IF is an error code. This is ERROR Icemaker Fan. It sounds like there may be some freezing or frosting occurring in this unit, and it is interfering with the water flow in the unit. If defrosting has not resolved the matter, then the unit may require service.
