Question

why does it agitate with so little water? and why is hot water added to a cold water only setting?

My clothes were barely covered in water, in fact, I could see dry spots on the clothes, and the machine was agitating? How can the clothes be getting clean when they are barely wet and have no detergent on them? Also, when I manually selected cold water, why do I get hot water added too? One load of towels I washed in cold, when I paused the machine and felt the temperature of the water, it was warm. I didn't select "warm". not too sure about this machine.

The operations you have described are normal. Through the course of the wash cycle, there are several different methods by which the clothing is agitated, and the water is manipulated, to ensure a more efficient wash. The water is also contained in the outer tub, so more water is available than what is seen. Finally, the water temperatures used by each cycle are according to the clothing manufacturer’s recommended temperatures. A COLD cycle is actually recommended to be 65-80 degrees. A typical water supply, straight from the faucet, is not at this temperature, and as such, must be raised to the appropriate temperature. It is for this reason that hot water is added, and the water feels warm to you.

I apologize, but no; it is the design of this unit to remain paused for no longer than 8 minutes. If the unit is paused longer than this 8 minutes, the water in the tub will drain.

The model WT4801CW is not a front loader, but a top-load washing machine. It does have a cleaning performance comparable to that of a front-load washing machine.

The WT4801CW top-load washing machine does not have an internal water heater. The method by which it heats water to the desired temperature is by mixing the inbound hot and cold water supplies.

The HEAVY SOIL feature will not necessarily utilize more water. It is designed to utilize more powerful tub rotations to provide more intense load agitation which works the detergent and water into the clothing more deeply, for stronger stain-fighting.

Question

How many Towels/Jeans?

I normally put at least 8 towels or 5 jeans in my old washer. This 3.7 cu ft washer is much bigger than mine old one. I read somewhere that you can put in 20 towels or 15 jeans. I'm not sure if that's correct or not. How many, on average, can I put in bath towels or jeans? Thanks.

Hello Gail,
thank you for your question about our LG Washer.

Yes, this model is designed specially to use only HE detergent, to make the machine as efficient as possible.

"Recommended detergent
Make sure to use HE (High-Efficiency) detergent for Top
loading washing machines. HE detergents dissolve more
efficiently and produce fewer suds to ensure efficient
washing and rinsing. Use the correct amount of detergent as
indicated on the label of the detergent packaging."

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this unit. If the bleach has not dispensed the it is recommended to run a rinse cycle before running the next load, or to wash whites before running a load of colors, in order to prevent color damage. If it still does not dispense, then the unit may require service. Question

Why do my clothes come out with new small water marking stains after I wash them

I bought my LG washer about 3 months ago. We are noticing white/clear stains that are only about 1-2 inches on our clothes when we finish washing them. This happens on brand new clothes, towels..etc. We do not wash with bleach.

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this washing machine. It almost seems that your clothing may be getting some soap stains on the clothing. You may attempt another rinse on the clothing to resolve this matter, or possibly raise the water temperature. If this does not resolve the matter, then the unit may require service. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000, or you can check our Repair Provider Lookup on our website, at http://www.lg.com/us/support/repair....

Question

Does my model 4801 washing machine have capability to heat water during wash cycle?

Reference your previous responses, which were helpful:

-----Quote-----------------------------------------------------------
The standard wash temperatures are about 90 degrees for WARM, and about 120 degrees for a HOT cycle. When the water hits a stainless steel drum, which is naturally cold, it will automatically reduce the temperature for a time. As the cycle runs, the unit is designed to raise this temperature. If the cycle is interrupted, some of the heat can escape, causing the unit to require harder work to raise the temperature again.
The difference between COLD and TAP COLD depends upon the incoming temperature. The COLD setting will provide between 65 and 75 degrees Fahreinheit. If the incoming temperature is lower than this, water will be added to raise the temperature. The TAP COLD setting will run the cold line only, regardless of the incoming temperature. Temperatures below 65 will not activate laundry additives and may cause lint, residue, poor cleaning, etc. In addition, detergent manufactures and care labels define COLD as 80-85. If the temperature of the in the tub is too cold for your hands, the detergent will not activate and clean effectively. The ECO WARM feature is designed to be a setting between the WARM and TAP COLD temperatures. It provides the benefits of a warm wash, while using less energy. The will be in the neighborhood of 90 degrees.
-----Unquote-------------------------------------------------------

I'm considering adding a Point Of Service water heater by my machine because its location is far from our water heater. Water at machine outlet is about 10 degrees until water has run for about 30 seconds. When you said "As the cycle runs, the unit is designed to raise this temperature. If the cycle is interrupted, some of the heat can escape, causing the unit to require harder work to raise the temperature again." This makes me think my machine already has a heating element in the machine to raise the water temp. Is that true? If not, what method ("harder work") does the machine use to raise the temperature? Thanks.

Question

How do I select "All Cold Rinses" option?

Under the "Wash/Temp" selection button says "All Cold Rinses", how do I select it?
Right now is rinsing with whichever temperature is selected for the wash cycle. I do most of my washing in warm/ecowarm and when I open the machine after the cycle the clothes are warm, so I know it's not using cold water to rinse.
