Question

How many inches is it from the deepest part of the bottom of the drum to the top edge of the washer in the WT4801CW model (3.7 cu. ft.)?

I can't reach the bottom of the drum in the larger models. I don't know if I can reach the bottom of the 3.7 cu. ft. WT4801CW model since none of the retailers have it on the floor anymore for me to see.

The LED indicator on the machine automatically determines the length of the wash cycle based on the weight of the laundry plus the soil level you have selected. For example, I just ran a load of king size sheets and pillowcases. The wash cycle for cotton/normal indicated 51 minutes. There is a Speed Wash option if you have lightly soiled or small loads you wish to run through more quickly.

The unit comes with a Liquid Bleach Compartment. This compartment holds liquid chlorine bleach, which will be dispensed automatically at the proper time during the wash cycle. Avoid overfilling or splashing when adding bleach to the dispenser. The maximum capacity of the bleach dispenser is one cup of bleach per wash cycle. Overfilling could result in premature dispensing of bleach, which will result in fabric damage. It is not necessary to put the bleach inside the tub with the clothing.

Laundry may be added to the load at the proper time in the wash cycle. When the ADD GARMENTS light is illuminated, it is safe to pause the cycle and add more items to the load. If garments are added when the ADD GARMENTS light is off, the washer will not adjust for these items which could result in poorer performance or fabric damage.

If the washer remains idle for 8 minutes after pausing the cycle, the water in the tub will drain.

I apologize but the wash cycle cannot be cancelled mid cycle. If you pause the unit, the unit will reset after 10 minutes. The water will drain and the cycle will be cancelled.

The clothing does not have to be submerged in water in order to be thoroughly cleaned. To do so would be inefficient. The unit has an outer tub that retains more water than that which is seen. As it cleans, the unit will also make use of this additional water. If the clothing is getting cleaned, then it is not likely that this sensor is defective.

Question

Is there a manual overide for the door lock?

I have just purchased this machine, and I am wondering if there is any way to open the lid if there is a power failure. I would hate to have wet clothes sit in washer for hours or days until the power is restored.

The lock is electrical, and requires power to the unit. If the washing machine does not have any power, then there will not be a way to manually unlock the lid. Check the breaker and the outlet to see if the power can be restored. If not, then the unit will require service. Question

Not enough water in the machine to wet all the clothes

I've had my machine for about 2 months. After I took the last load out, I noticed that one shirt had a large area that was completely dry. I understand that the machine is designed to use as little water as possible, but I don't understand how the clothes could be clean if they are not getting wet. What am I doing wrong? (no error messages on the machine)

Question

How many Towels/Jeans?

I normally put at least 8 towels or 5 jeans in my old washer. This 3.7 cu ft washer is much bigger than mine old one. I read somewhere that you can put in 20 towels or 15 jeans. I'm not sure if that's correct or not. How many, on average, can I put in bath towels or jeans? Thanks.

Question

After washing, water remains in the detergent dispenser. Do I just dump it into the tub?

I'm using liquid detergent, though I'm sure that's immaterial. Anyway, a large quantity of water remains in the dispenser drawer after washing is completed. Should I leave it there till the next time and then dump it before adding more detergent? Should I dump it into the tub after removing the clothes and let it sit there till the next use? There isn't a sink handy to dump it into.

It is normal for a small amount of water to remain in the dispenser compartments at the end of a cycle. It is recommended to empty this water between loads, and also to wash the dispenser cup as well as the siphon insert. This will allow for more efficient operation of the device.

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this washing machine. Did the unit actually stop all operations, or did it just appear to quit moving? Some of the wash cycle operations occur when you cannot see active spinning of the drum. This is normal. The door will remain locked until the cycle is finished. If this is not the case, then the unit may require service. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000, or you can check our Repair Provider Lookup on our website, at http://www.lg.com/us/support/repair....

Adding time during wash cycle, SOAK
Allows the consumer to remove stains more thoroughly by specifying additional time for the clothing to soak during washing. At the end of SOAK, the wash cycle will be started without drain.
• Cycle time will be increased by 30 minutes.
• It is normal that washer do weak agitation during SOAK cycle.

Why do my clothes come out with new small water marking stains after I wash them

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this washing machine. It almost seems that your clothing may be getting some soap stains on the clothing. You may attempt another rinse on the clothing to resolve this matter, or possibly raise the water temperature. If this does not resolve the matter, then the unit may require service. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000, or you can check our Repair Provider Lookup on our website, at http://www.lg.com/us/support/repair....

Question

Does my model 4801 washing machine have capability to heat water during wash cycle?

Reference your previous responses, which were helpful:

-----Quote-----------------------------------------------------------
The standard wash temperatures are about 90 degrees for WARM, and about 120 degrees for a HOT cycle. When the water hits a stainless steel drum, which is naturally cold, it will automatically reduce the temperature for a time. As the cycle runs, the unit is designed to raise this temperature. If the cycle is interrupted, some of the heat can escape, causing the unit to require harder work to raise the temperature again.
The difference between COLD and TAP COLD depends upon the incoming temperature. The COLD setting will provide between 65 and 75 degrees Fahreinheit. If the incoming temperature is lower than this, water will be added to raise the temperature. The TAP COLD setting will run the cold line only, regardless of the incoming temperature. Temperatures below 65 will not activate laundry additives and may cause lint, residue, poor cleaning, etc. In addition, detergent manufactures and care labels define COLD as 80-85. If the temperature of the in the tub is too cold for your hands, the detergent will not activate and clean effectively. The ECO WARM feature is designed to be a setting between the WARM and TAP COLD temperatures. It provides the benefits of a warm wash, while using less energy. The will be in the neighborhood of 90 degrees.
-----Unquote-------------------------------------------------------

I'm considering adding a Point Of Service water heater by my machine because its location is far from our water heater. Water at machine outlet is about 10 degrees until water has run for about 30 seconds. When you said "As the cycle runs, the unit is designed to raise this temperature. If the cycle is interrupted, some of the heat can escape, causing the unit to require harder work to raise the temperature again." This makes me think my machine already has a heating element in the machine to raise the water temp. Is that true? If not, what method ("harder work") does the machine use to raise the temperature? Thanks.

Question

What happened--washer filled up to top with water.

Used the "normal" cycle. After going through load sensing and water entered tub I added one washcloth and pressed "fabric softner" (last washer did softner automatically and I'm having a hard time remembering to set this option). The cycle went back to "load sensing" and proceeded to fill the entire tub with water. This was way too much water! I added the item while the "add garment light" was on. What did I do wrong?
