Question

washing waterproof or water resistance clothes

I've read on several HE machines that they do not recommend washing waterproof or water resistant clothes in HE machines., si this true for this model? If so, why? I have lots of golf jackets and rain suits that I need to wash. I can't imagine not using the washer to do that.

According to the owner’s manual, do not wash or spin any item labeled or known to be waterproof or water-resistant, even if the product care label on the item permits machine washing. Failure to adhere to this information could result in severe damage to your laundry, your washer and/or property as a result of abnormal vibration of the washer.

Question

How do I use Oxi Clean Powder along with liquid detergent with this model?

This question was previously posted, and Oxi-Clean does work with HE washers. The question is how can I use BOTH my liquid HE detergent (i.e. Tide, Gain) and my Oxi-Clean powder in the same load?

If you're using the machine's dispenser, both products must either be liquid or powder. Otherwise place your liquid detergent in the dispenser drawer and add powdered oxi to the tub prior to adding the clothes.

Yes, but I would get the larger tub machine for your application. The soft close lid of the larger machine would be a plus for your use, particularly if several different people, each somewhat unfamiliar with a "new" machine's operation were using it.

Actually I have two of these machines at two locations - one is the larger, the other the smaller. Both are excellent and there is no difference in cleaning. Given this machine has no agitator in the normal sense, I am surprised how clean the cloths are.

You will not be disappointed.

Question

I have heard there are balancing issues with the high efficiency top loaders.

I have a friend who has complained about the H.E. top loading washers having frequent problems with "unbalanced" loads: Does this happen more frequently with a larger capacity ( over 4.0 c.u.) machine, especially if most of the laundry loads are small?

Also can I wash a queen -sized comforter in an LG top-loading washer with a 3.7 c.u. capacity?

You can wash the comforter all by itself because it is relatively large.

The general rule for these washers is to make sure to never put only one moderately sized (or smaller) item in for a wash. During the spin cycle it will go to one side and throw the washer out of balance.

If you put in more than one item, they will balance each other during the spin cycle.

If you load the washer like a donut and leave the middle somewhat clear you will not have any balancing issues. I remember reading someone else recommending this before I purchased the machine. It really seems to work. The one time I had an issue is when I first got my machine and I didn't put enough clothes into the tub...I only had one set of king size sheets. The balance got off since there weren't enough items in the tub.

The SPIN SPEED button also activates the DRAIN & SPIN cycle to drain the tub and spin clothes. Press this button, without making any wash cycle selections. This should allow the opportunity to drain and spin only.

Just got this washer yesterday. I found if you wait for the cycle to get to the wash stage (water in the agitator) and then turn it off (far left button, not the pause) then turn it back on again, it appears that washer goes back to load sensing with water still in the agitator and then adds more water. The cycle continues with more water in both wash and rinse stages.

That section of the manual does appear to be misprinted. I looked in the manual for the matching dryer, and these steps work on this washer: Set your desired cycle settings, then press and hold the CUSTOM PROGRAM button for 3 seconds. You may save only one custom program at a time. Pressing and holding the CUSTOM PROGRAM button will overwrite any previously saved custom program.
The next time you turn on the washer, press the CUSTOM PROGRAM button to recall your desired settings, then press the START/PAUSE button.

While it does seem that the first line (You can add an extra rinse cycle to the default rinse cycle.) may be an error, inspection of the rest of the settings does show differences. The key sequence is all the same, but pressing the CUSTOM PROGRAM button, and the CUSTOM PROGRAM light coming on, instead of the EXTRA RINSE button and light. Start with the type of load being washed (Cottons, Bulky, etc.), press the Custom Setting button, and after the light comes on, make your setting changes. To protect your clothing, not every option is available to you. Page 22 should provide some guidance as to what options can be used and changed.

answer 2
The standard wash temperatures are about 90 degrees for WARM water, and about 120 degrees for a HOT cycle. When the water hits a stainless steel drum, which is naturally cold, it will automatically reduce the water temperature for a time. As the cycle runs, the unit is designed to raise this temperature. If the cycle is interrupted, some of the heat can escape, causing the unit to require harder work to raise the temperature again.

Have you tried pulling the hose to extend it? I had the same problem because this machine was replacing a front load machine with higher than normal drain location.

It takes a good pull, but the hose extends like an accordion. Move the machine away from the wall, grab low on the hose with one hand, higher up with the other and pull...hard.

Good luck.

Just pull out the soap dispenser tray and "dump" the water that is remaining into the tub of the washer. I actually leave some of the water in the dispenser since I use powdered detergent, and it dissolves the detergent for the next load.

Question

LG WT4801CW Washer - Water comes out hot when I have set on cold

I recently purchased the LG WT4801CW. I've noticed when I open the washer to add garment while it is filling with water, the water will be cold when I have set on hot, or hot when I have set on cold. It happens sporadically. I have checked hot/cold connections and that's not it. Also, I always run the hot water in the sink next to the washer, so hot water will be "primed." It always worked fine with my old washing machine. It seems to me the sensor is broken. And please don't say it's because the drum is cold and, thus, making the hot water cold. It's coming out of the sprayer cold. I've washed several "cold only" items, only to find out they are in hot water. What's the dealio?

Question

I can't wash on Hot or Warm.

I just bought a WT480 Top Loading Washer. The water doesn't run long enough to get hot water to the machine. So even though I have it set on "Hot" or "Warm" when I check what is coming out, it is always cold. I think my clothes are washing in "Tap Cold" for every load. We regret the trouble you have experienced with this washing machine. It seems that what is needed, in this instance, is to have the water running before the washing machine is activated, so that the water temperature can increase to the point where it will be ready for a HOT or WARM cycle. The washer cannot run much more water, else it will cut down on the efficiency of the product.

We appreciate your interest in this washing machine. It may be possible to wash this quilt. It is difficult to say about this particular quilt, as they can vary in size and thickness. It is first recommended to check and confirm the washing instructions of the quilt in question. Second, if the quilt can be washed if it can be placed in the wash tub with sufficient room to tumble and yet not get out of balance.

Question

Light Weight Loads and Hand Wash Items

We will be purchasing a new washer to replace a failing unit and are impressed with the features and seeming quality of the LG WT4801CXW:3.7 cu. ft. top loader.

We have two questions. Will this machine allow us to wash small light weight loads? example: girls tights and ballet leotard etc.

Secondly, the washer we currently have has a "hand-wash" cycle. This unit appears to have a delicate cycle. How would that differ from the traditional "hand wash" cycles? What suggestions would you have for doing hand washables with this machine?

Thanks

I use powdered detergent. You simply pull out the tray for loading the soap, (I've removed the liquid portion of the tray for easier loading of powdered detergent) measure out the detergent I need, (usually a scoop which comes with the powdered detergent) and push the tray back in to place.

If you are using liquid HE washing detergent, you will just pour it directly into the middle spot for liquid detergent. If you're using powdered HE detergent, then remove the blue tray insert. To completely remove the tray, you will gently press on both sides of the complete tray that attach it to the washing machine. To put the tray back, you will just align the tray in the correct groove and slide it back into the machine. I also will remove the tray and dump the water that collects there after my last load of laundry. This way the washer is fresh and ready to go for the next load.

My towels and sheets are not getting clean!

I've done a load of sheets by themselves that required an extra rinse to get the soap/fabric softener residue off. Then I did a load of towels (with the machine about 1/2 full) and they came out completely dirty even though I had soil level on high. I did a second full cycle (with soil level still on high) and they STILL are not clean AT ALL. What is going on?
