This particular NAS device has not been designed to support replaceable hard drives. If the unit is not operating, then the drive can be replaced through service, but if this is just to install a larger drive, it is not designed to support one.

Question

I don't have a DVD drive. How do I install?

I have a netbook. All I can find on the LG website are updates and I am not sure they apply if I haven't installed anything. Besides there were so many choices for Windows XP I didn't know which to choose.

I apologize, but none of the files listed on our website include the installation software. This unit requires the use of a CD drive or a DVD drive in order to utilize the Installation Software. Question

user Admin does not have "read permission" on any folder

When I go to file browser from Web Menu logged in as admin, getting a message "you do not have read permission on this folder". This happens on all folders Share, x-hdd, multimedia etc. However a user set up with all permissions can access with no problem - only "admin" has this issue. This was working before - but stopped working recently (I think when the IP address of the NAS device changed). I have changed the IP address to the original value - but the problem with user admin persists.

Question

how to solve not being able to map to this drive.

Here is a list of operating system. That will map and will not map
Mac OS X Leopard with Snow Leopard will map network drive
Mac OS X Lion will not map network drive
Ubuntu 11.10 will map network drive
Ubuntu 10.10 will not map network drive
XP will not map network drive
Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS will not map network drive
I have the following unit
NAS name LG-NAS
NAS description LG-NAS server
Firmware version 6674
and smba is set to windows shares.
and your firmware update does not work.
please help

Thank you for providing this information. According to our documentation, each of the Operating Systems you have mentioned have been tested and found to be able to map the NAS drive. On Windows XP, try the following: Go to Start and select Run; Type \\ipaddress; Verify whether you are able to see the NAS folders and then try mapping again. If you wish for the Ubuntu 10.10 and lower, try the following: Select Places, then Connect to server; Select Windows shares; Type the IP Address for the NAS. Hopefully, you should see the NAS folders. Regretfully we don't have instructions for mapping on Ubuntu. You might have to check on Ubuntu support for this. Our support on Linux is limited on this device. Unfortunately, our latest firmware update links are corrupted. However, you should be able to get the latest update at this site: http://www.lgservice.co.kr/cs_lg/do.... The file is called firmware-nt1-1_8421rfke.bin. Hopefully this will be helpful to you. Question

How to play movies and show the content of .srt files (subtitles)?

I´ve already upload the srt file on the same directory and name of the .avi file. I supose it´s necessary to have some additional software to run the .srt file.

Why would you upload a zip file that is invalid for customers to download?

We have tested this link and have found it to download and open properly, providing 5 items: “new_ui_uboot_update”, “LGNASDetector.exe”, “netenc_nt1_6674.zip”, “Network_enclosure_Initialization_manual_v110720_eng_v2.doc”, and “tftpdaemon_n.exe”.

The default LG Network Storage Administrator’s ID is ‘admin’ and the password is ‘admin’. It is advised to change your password for security reasons. Connect to NETWORK STORAGE WEB MENU -> Configuration -> Personal Setting -> My profile. From this point, you can request a new account. Question

when copying file > 1GB into x-hdd, it just hangs. Is this expected ?

I am using \\lg-nas\x-hdd to copy some large files (typical size > 1GB). Windows stops copy saying the drive is inaccessible. I tried many times and it stops at the same point always. I even tried copying different files with the same result. Is there a limitation in filesystem/samba implementation that does not allow the process ?

File uploading and downloading has a maximum file size of 2 GB when working through the File Explorer. However, larger file sizes can still be uploaded and downloaded when using the FTP service. Also, check the size of your external hard drive and the amount of space used. The maximum usage space on x-HDD is 400 GB. I apologize, but no; this NAS unit is designed to RECEIVE data over the USB port, in order to effect a backup for the files. This unit will not allow the output of data for the USB of a television.

Connect to the Network Storage Web Menu, and go to the CONFIGURATION option. From here, select SYSTEM, and then FIRMWARE UPDATE. Next, you will choose the BACKUP SETTING VALUE tab. How do I fix a 500 Internal Server Error?

I've had my LG-NAS for a few months now, and overall it has worked well.

This week, however, when I try to access the log in screen using the 8000 port, it comes back immediately with a 500 Internal Server Error. This is the body of the web page:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, you@example.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Apache/2.2.14 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8o DAV/2 PHP/5.2.11 with Suhosin-Patch mod_wsgi/3.3 Python/2.7.1+ Server at lg-nas Port 8000

I have no idea where to access the server logs, since the main file system is not usually accessible.

Everything else seems to work fine. I can access the drive through the network, and the user-account web pages come up fine as well.

If I can't access the login screen, how do I update the software?

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this NAS system. This data appears to be an error with Apache. It is recommended to restart the unit and try a different web browser. If this does not resolve the matter, then the unit may need to be re-initialized. If this is done, it will be necessary to back up your data first, to keep from losing data. How to change user's ftp inital directory?

When I login into N1A1 product with user login/password, the inital directory is "/", which is "root" directory. And it has "volume1" direcotry only. Please let me how to change it to, like "/volume1/Share/<user id>".

In the even of the administrator forgetting the password, restoration is impossible. Hence, safeguard the password. To create a new password, the system must be re-initialized. In this case, all data will be lost, and data recovery will be impossible, for security reasons. Connect to the NETWORK STORAGE WEB menu. Select CONFIGURATION, and then select SYSTEM. Finally, click INITIALIZE SYSTEM. Click on START TO INITIALIZE SETTINGS. If you have additional questions about this process, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

This is not a PC, this is a network storage device that can be accessed through a computer on a network. It cannot replace a computer. You can use this device to backup all of the data on your current computer and then transfer it all to a new one.
