Question

How to connect additional speakers?

I recently purchased (2) outdoor speakers and want to connect to my Blu-Ray Home theater system to listen to Pandora, etc. outdoors. There are no additional connections on the back of the Blu-Ray component for additional speakers. The surround sound speakers included with the system utilize all of the audio output jacks.

We appreciate your interest and concern with this Home Theater System. It is likely that this number corresponds with the different input settings, from which the unit receives an audio signal. Additional information might be available if we could know the number involved. Please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

Question

Question about DTS-HD Master Audio & Dolby TrueHD

Hi. I bough the LHB336 unit back in december.
I've played with it for a while, I mostly use it to watch movies stored in DNLA Server, the unit is connected to the network via a HP ProCurve 1800 10/100/1000 mbps switch.
Most of my movies are stored in mkv format, with almost everything (in the sound format section) stored in DTS 5.1 format, some in Dolby Digital 5.1 format, a few in both DTS-ES 6.1 (Discrete and Matrix variations).
Recently I noticed something, this unit can't reproduce HD Audio properly (DTS-MA or Dolby TrueHD), if I play a movie file with audio track in any of those formats the sound is garbled and muffled. I tried changing the Sound Effect while watching the movie, also I tried reproduce it using ByPass and nothing, sound is always screwed up.
does this unit doesn't support this audio formats? These formats are already present in Blu-Ray discs, and are in fact standards for those type of media.

I apologize, but no; when viewing video files over a DLNA server, compatible audio formats are Dolby Digital, DTS, MP3, WMA, AAC, and AC3. This information is listed on page 10 of the owner’s manual.

Question

Question about video buffer size

I'm backing up some Blu-Ray movies to DNLA using x264 encoder. I've noticed that when I go for higher bitrates in the encoding (let's say 13 Mbps or higher), there are points in the movies that cause this unit to present a video/audio lag during high-motion/high-bitrate scenes.
In the manual, it say that this unit is H.264/MPEG-4 AVC profile Main, High at Level 4.1 compliant, meaning that it can decode a maximum bit rate of 50000/62500 kbit/s respectively.
Suspecting, that it could be caused by big spikes in the bitrate in the stream that maybe are overflowing the unit video buffer, I would like to know what is the size of the video buffer for this unit, so I can adjust my encoding settings accordly and enjoy a lag free video reproduction.
Thank you.

We regret the difficulties you have experienced with this Home Theater System. The buffer memory is designed to be 256 MB. The unit should not have any difficulty with the playback of these video files. It seems that, if the file requires buffering, this will be related to the network speed. If you have additional questions about this matter, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

Question

Problems with sound

When I turn on my LG LHB336 receiver and try and stream Netflix, the video starts just fine but with no sound. In order to get sound, I have to switch to HDMI, which is Direct TV, wait for sound to start, then switch back to Netflix.

It just started happening this week.

How do I get video AND sound when I play Netflix without having to do this work around?

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this player. Try to hold down the POWER button, on the front of the player, for about 5 seconds to see if the player will deactivate. If so, then after another 10 seconds, try to restart the unit and test the disc again. If this does not resolve the matter, unplug the unit for about 45 seconds. If this also does not resolve the matter, then the unit may require service. Please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 to make proper service arrangements.

Question

5.1 Surround sound switching to stereo when TV turned on

Hi there, I own the LHB 336, also an LG-50pz550 tv, and they both work fine. I also connected up my laptop that uses an ATI HDMI out. I recently upgraded to windows 8 and I've noticed a strange issue. I can get 5.1 surround sound when the LHB 336 is powered on. However, when I power on the TV, the sound immediately reverts to stereo. I've made sure the simple link is active, the HDMI from the PC runs directly to the LHB 336. I then use the HDMI output from the LHB 336 to connect to the TV. It seems there may be some sort of "Handshake" issue caused by powering on the TV. Is there any way to have the TV act as a "display only" without trying to take over the audio settings?

Question

How to use 5.1 Surround Sound

Whenever I use Netflix, the TV, or an audio file (that is already programed for 5.1) the rear speakers do not play sound. Using the info button on the remote, I can confirm that : Video: 1080 HD ; Audio: English / 5.1 (Primary) ; but the front, center, and sub are the only speakers that have any sound coming out of them. When I test the speakers in the menu, they all work fine. Is there some setting that I need to alter for this to work? thank you.

Question

Why does my player has say "Update" on it, when I turn it on now?

My LHB336 has been working fine from day one. I have my LG 47LW5600 connected through the "HDMI1 (ARC)", to the the "HDMI Out" of the LHB336. Today, when I turned it both on, the front display of the LHB336 has the word "Update" on it, and it will not output video to my TV anymore. Also, I cannot access the Menu of the LHB336 on the TV, cause the TV doesn't receive a signal from the receiver.

Is the receiver doing an automatic update?

I apologize, but we have no information available concerning the compatibility of a universal remote control with any particular device. Oftentimes, a universal remote control can have trouble with such a system, due to the inclusion of different functions in the LHB336, such as BluRay/DVD and Stereo system. All codes to be used will be located in the setup instructions for the Universal Remote Control. If you have experienced trouble in locating codes for LG, you may also try using Zenith or Goldstar codes, as some of these coincide with LG frequencies.
