Customer questions and answers for LG Electronics BE12LU38

Question

BE12 Read speed slow

The BE12LU38 has been performing at about 4.8x max rather than the 8x speed as listed in the specs. I used the standard Nero Disc test and the average was 3.7x and maxed out at 4.8x.

Used the e-sata cable, tested on a BD-ROM DL brand new disc. New laptop with i7 quad core processor, SSD drive, 8g memory. I don't see the laptop as the weak link.

I called customer service, but they had no input. Would prefer to not return the product if possible.

Thanks.

Yeah, use the e-sata cable that comes in the box (if your laptop or pc has an e-sata port). The speed will increase more than the regular usb cable (if you are currently using it).

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this drive. This drive should certainly be able to read from a BD-ROM disc at 8x to potentially 10x. If the computer memory is clear and the drivers are set up correctly, then the unit should be operating at its full potential. We might only recommend checking the available hard drive space to ensure that it is sufficient for proper operation. For additional questions, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

Question

Can I obtain software not rejected as virus or matware?

My unit (BE08 on box; maybe BE12LU38 currently?) works fine with CD's & DVD's, has for months. But the software that came with it will NOT load on my computer (Vista): it is seen as a severe security threat. Unit won't recognize Blu Ray without the software. I won't override my security to be able to use the Blu Ray features I paid for. HELP??

You may need to obtain a copy of the latest version of the LSS Lightscribe System Software. This can be downloaded from lightscribe.com. Beyond the drive and the System Software, the only other things needed are a lightscribe disc and the label-printing software. The software provided on the disc is likely not Mac compliant, so this may have to be obtained separately. If you have any additional questions, you may contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

We regret the inconvenience you have experienced with this player. This drive should not have a problem with this disc format. No firmware update should be required for this 3D disc. It is recommended to check the playback software or the video card of the computer to ensure proper 3D compatibility.

Yes, they can re-write bluray discs as long as the disc itself is re-writable. We suggest taking a look at all of the specific differences between both models in order to decide which one meets your specific need. Here's a link to a direct comparison between both models. All you have to do is click 'Differences' on the left hand side of the screen and you're good to go.

This drive should have the full capability of installing the software from this disc. The only known restrictions might be either the lack of space on the hard drive, or an incompatible operating system. Please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 for assistance in troubleshooting.

USB cable seems loose. Can I buy a new one?

My computer does not recognize the writer after running for half an hour or so. I insert a new disc, and it's not available on Toast or my desktop. Does it need to cool down? The USB cable seems loose in the port. Do I need a new cable?

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this drive. Check your hardware properties to see if there are any error flags in the operation of the unit. There is no reason why it might need to cool after a half hour unless it has no room for ventilation around it. You are certainly able to try a new cable if you believe the old one to be too loose. If you have any questions about the operation of this device, it would be recommended to contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

Question

What is the difference between LG BE12LU30 AND LG BE12LU38?

I would like to learn the differences between the two models since when reading the comparison chart on the LG website between these two devices, I found that the LG BELU38 does not include recording modes and accesories (like usb cable, eSATA) and when reading the on-line owner's manual of LG BE12LU38, it relates to the owner's manual of LG BE12LU30 model and moreover, there is little online information as to this product leading to confusion between the two models. Are they the same models but with a slight technical difference? I would like to learn the most of information you can supply as to the LG BE12LU38, for example if it is a new / older model, compatibilities as to operating systems (will it work with window vista 32bit or windows 7 64bit?), if it is of superior performance with regards to the LG BE12LU30 model, which model would be recommended to purchase. It is also so hard to get a store where to purchase the LG BE12LU38 model.
Please, advise SINCE your technical answer will help me to decide which model I will acquire.
Thank you so much.

We appreciate your interest in this Super Multi Blue drive. This drive is capable of reading most any format of software. However, once it has been read by the drive, the computer has to be able to process the information. The question, then, should be if the computer has the capability of processing the data that is read by the drive.

There are no new firmware versions for this drive. It sounds as if this unit may have been set up with an incorrect driver. Check this possibility, as well as the amount of available hard drive space you have on your computer. This device requires 60 GB of free HDD space for file writing. If you have additional questions about this device, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.
