Jen,

I own this refrigerator as well, and if you keep pressing the button next to the freezer temperature display, it will continue to count down, then "wrap around" to a number larger than 0 (I think it was 6 or 7), then you can keep pressing the button to lower the temperature back down to 0. Having an up/down would have been more convenient, I think, but this is functional, at least. :)

A thin layer of frost on shelves and food items is normal. However, if frost is forming around the door, at the back of the unit, or excessive other issues might be occurring.

Are the doors opened often and closing properly? Every time the door opens, cold air escapes and warm air enters the cabinet. The warm air contains moisture that freezes and accumulates in the unit. A small amount accumulating on food, shelves and rails is normal. Make certain that the door seal is clean. Check for cold air escaping from the door by running hand around the perimeter of the door. If you feel cold air coming out, check to see if the seal is damaged in that area.

Is there a food item blocking the door? If there is something blocking the door, preventing it from closing completely then warm air will be able to enter the unit. This will cause frost buildup in the unit. Rearrange the food items in the freezer so that the item is no longer blocking the door.

Is the temp set too cold? Frost buildup can also occur if the temperature is set too low when there is not much food in the unit and/or the doors are not opened very often. Try raising the temperature in the unit so that it is not as cold. How much will vary depending on amount of food and how often doors are opened.

Has anything hot been added to the compartment? Warm air contains moisture, which will freeze in the unit. Allow food to cool before storing in the unit. This will prevent frost from occurring.

Is there too much food stored in the freezer compartment? If there is too much food in the freezer, this will inhibit proper air circulation which will cause frost formation. Make certain that nothing is blocking the air vents and that there is not too much in the compartment. Try removing some items and rearranging the items.

The IF Error Code is typically ice buildup or a motor problem with the icemaker fan. It is recommended to attempt defrosting the icemaker compartment. If this error code continues after the unit has been defrosted, then the unit will likely require service. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000, or you can check our Repair Provider Lookup on our website, at http://www.lg.com/us/support/repair....

Question

Re: LFX31925ST..Why does condensation form under the refrigerator portion? It forms icicles on the top drawer of the freezer.

We've had this for approximately 3 weeks and had a serviceman here last week. He replaced the rubber around the freezer door but the problem still exists. There are only 2 full-tme employed adults using it so it isn't because the drawer is opened too often (as was suggested by a service rep).

Many factors can cause the unit to leak from the door. When the unit is first installed or reinstalled, the dispenser should be run for 3-5 minutes to flush air from the water lines. It is perfectly normal for a couple of drops of water to drip after dispensing a glass of water, much like a faucet will drip a couple of times after turning it off.

Is it a steady stream? If the dispenser has a steady stream of water coming out, even after a glass has been removed, the lever that is pushed in to dispense may be stuck. Try to push in and out on it to see if it will release. Be careful doing this, so as not to damage the lever. If it doesn’t resolve, turn off water supply and service.

Is it a consistent drip? If the dispenser has a consistent drip, there are air bubbles in the water lines creating pressure and causing this to occur. To flush out the air bubbles, dispense 2-3 gallons of water then check if dripping has stopped. If not, check the water connections and lines for possible damage.

Does it appear to randomly leak from the funnel? If water appears in the drip tray randomly, this is actually normal. The unit goes into an auto defrost twice per day, which can cause the ice in the ice bin closest to the door and funnel opening to melt a little. This is because at the funnel, a little warm air will get in. The melting will drop out of the funnel into the tray.

Is it still leaking from the dispenser flap (cap duct)? If the dispenser flap in the door does not shut all the way, cold air escapes and causes condensation buildup, which then drips (leaks) in to the dispenser tray. Make sure there is no frost or ice accumulation on the flap by opening the door and looking.

If you continue to experience this problem, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 for additional trouble shooting steps or service.

According to the owner’s manual, allow your refrigerator to run for at least two to three hours before putting food in it. Check the flow of cold air in the freezer compartment to ensure proper cooling. Putting food in the refrigerator before it has coold could cause the food to spoil, or a bad odor could remain inside the refrigerator. Wait at least this long, but if it is still not cool, allow additional time.

Hello Colleen

This model would fit your opening but it's possible that one of the doors won't open up to a full 90° angel because of your space limitations (wall).
For ventilation purposes you'd need 1/8" clearance on the counter side
and 4 7/8" clearance on the side of the wall to open the door to a full 90° angel.
LG LFX31925ST Refrigerator Width 35 3/4"
Installation Clearance on Sides 1/8"
Door Open 90° Edge Clearance with Handle 4 7/8"

It is unknown what the actual cause is for this frost to be forming in your refrigerator. Common causes for frost are frequent opening and closing of the unit, or condensation caused my warmer, moist air getting into the unit. This could be from the door not sealing properly, or a dirty gasket allowing air past the seal. It is recommended to clean the gasket and the door frame where it seals. Wipe out any condensation and frost, so that it cannot re-freeze. If it develops again, then the unit may require service. I'm not 100% certain I understand your question, but the hinges are outside the frame of the refrigerator. And when I open the doors, they open to be significantly wider than the refrigerator (I can't provide exact measure, because the right door is blocked by a counter in my kitchen).

If you are not going to use the water dispenser/ice maker features, you can snug it up to the wall with just the space for the electrical plug gapping between the wall and the refrigerator. If you are going to be using the water/ice features, you will have to allow additional space for the water line to be not compressed/kinked between the water source and the rear lower left corner of the refrigerator, where the water intake is located.

Question

Backup Generator Wattage Requirements

I'm looking for generator requirements for hurricane power outages. I need to know the normal runtime wattage and also the peak surge wattage when the compressor turns on. Is this unit designed lower peak requirements so that the compressor doesn't turn on while any defrost coils are on? Is there any type of override, such as vacation mode, where defrosts are disabled? Any energy consumption insights would be helpful.

Question

AmandaB has the same issue I have. And it's not with the water dispenser as answered before...

In the freezer ceiling, moisture builds up then melts drips and re-freezes on the internal clear freezer drawer. This causes the drawer to freeze to the track and the sliding drawer underneath it as well. And it just flat out looks bad. I had a technician come out and install what he called l a "cup" in the back to collect moisture, but that didn't help. I have just as much ice buildup as before.

Now this morning I wake up and the display shows "ER" and "IF". The water and ice dispenser won't work. I called LG and they say that's a Ice fan issue. So my question is what is causing all of this ice buildup? Is that related to the "IF" issue and why for a fridge that I've only had for two months is it having so many issues? Is this a known problem?

An ER IF error code displays when there is an error with the Icemaker Fan. Generally, this would occur if either the motor was not working, or if the fan had some ice buildup around it. This can occur if condensation freezes around the fan blades and keeps it from moving. This can occur due to warm air coming into the ice compartment through the dispenser. So the previous answer is a valid possibility for this symptom. It is also possible that there is an air leak around the gasket of the door, or of the ice compartment. The IF error code can sometimes by remedied by unplugging the refrigerator, allowing the unit to thaw out, dry up all the moisture, and then plugging it up again. However, if it continues to happen, or if it is a gasket leak, then the unit may require service.
