Question

Ice maker keeps jamming every couple days

I bought a LG LFX28968ST over a month ago and the icemaker keeps jamming for crushed ice every two days or so. I take the ice tray out and dump half of it out and shake the container around and then it works fine. This has been happening since I bought it. I have to continue to do this same scenario over and over to keep it working normal. Please advice me on why this keeps happening. I am ready to haul my beautiful fridge back to where I bought it. Is this a problem with this model? Its an additional job to my everyday life and its something I do not want to continue.
Thanks!

Jingo - I've owned the same fridge for almost 2 years now and I am completely frustrated with the same problem. I have found that avoiding the crushed ice setting completely (use cubes) reduces the frequency of the ice dam buildup, but still happens at least once a week. It's terrible quality and design and there is no fix for is other than avoiding the purchase to begin with. I feel your pain.

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this ice maker. Check the ice dispenser flap to ensure that no external air is gaining access to the ice bin. This can cause the cubes to melt together and cause a clog. If this is not the situation, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 to troubleshoot the matter further.

The fridge is in demo/display mode. You need to hold two different buttons down at the same time on the front of the door. Hold down "Ice Plus" and "Refrigerator" button at same time for 5 seconds and it will deactivate demo mode.

I had this problem initially and the installer said that since it was a floor model, maybe the lights were burned out. Called service and they replaced the front panel and now everything works great! By the way, a short time after the door is closed, the lights all go out except for the one for ice at the very top.

This unit does not have a dual ice maker. It does have two ice bins. This second bin is for when you need more ice, the bin in the refrigerator door can be emptied into the bin in the freezer, to allow room for more ice production.

Question

Ice creates flakes??

If I use my ice-maker, the water is full of these white "flakes" and I don't know what they are. If I just pour in water, it's clean, but if I put ice, and then fill it up with water, then I see a "cloud" of white flakes. They are not ice because they do not melt.. they just float.

I've cleaned the ice holder at least 4 or 5 times but it does not help.

The fridge is not even 2 months old.. what can I do?

Thank you

Question

How can I fit more tall items in this refrigerator - like 2 liter bottles and large juice containers?

I've put the milk on the door and put the folding shelf up to the top with the front recessed, but I can only fit about 2 or 3 items in, and forget putting in any pitchers. I'm ready to take out the top two shelves! Am I doing something wrong??

We regret your dissatisfaction with the design of this refrigerator. You may attempt placing the milk on the shelves and the taller items in the door bins which can be adjusted for height better. This will also place your milk closer to the cooling vents, rather than on the door where its surrounding cold air escapes rapidly any time the door is opened.

When the CHANGE FILTER icon turns on, the air filter needs to be replaced. After replacing the air filter, press and hold the FRESH AIR FILTER button for 3 seconds to turn the icon light off. It is recommended to change the filter approximately every 6 months. When the water filter indicator turns on, you have to change the water filter. After changing the water filter, press and hold the CHANGE FILTER button for 3 seconds to turn the indicator light off. Again, you need to change the water filter approximately every 6 months. These instructions are located on page 25 of your owner’s manual.

Generally recommended to have a few inches. Depends on the general temp in the installation area - if its a cool place, it can be reduced to 3-4 inches but if it is hotter then you may want to add a few more inches to give enough ventilation space. Hope this helps!

I apologize that you are experiencing this issue. Unplug the unit for a few seconds and plug it back in. This will reset the main board. In addition check the following. If the issue continues please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 for additional troubleshooting steps or service.

Is the temperature set improperly (too warm)? Make certain that the temperatures for BOTH freezer and fridge compartments are set properly. The more food in the unit, the hotter the ambient temperature of the room, the more the unit is opened and closed, the cooler the unit should be set. This is because it will take more for the unit to keep it cool.

Is there anything blocking the vents in the compartment? Check the vents in both compartments. If anything is blocking the vents, the air will not be able to properly circulate through the compartment. Move any food that is blocking the vents to another location in the unit and allow 24 hours for temp to stabilize. See your Owner’s Manual for suggested food locations.

Is the door not closing properly? If the door is not closing properly, cold air will escape and thus prevent the unit from maintaining the set temperature. Check for items blocking the door. Check the seals to make certain they are clean and not damaged. With the door shut, feel around the door for air escaping.

Has a lot of food been added? Has hot food been added? Adding room temperature or hot food to the compartment will temporarily warm, requiring the unit to run longer to bring it back down to the set temperature. Please allow enough time for the unit to cool back down. How long varies, depending on amount and temp of food and the settings of unit.

Generally speaking, LG refrigerators are initially set with the REFRIGERATOR CONTROL at 37° F and the FREEZER CONTROL at 0°F. Leave them at these setting for 24 hours (one day) to stabilize. Then adjust the compartment Temperature. The actual inner temperature varies depending on the food status, since the indicated temperature setting is the target temperature and not the actual temperature within the refrigerator.

Question

Do you experience issues with dents on the stainless doors on model LFX28978SW ?

We purchased this model from Sears and have had 4 delivered with a dent in the same place on each refrigerator. The upper left door with the ice maker in it has had 1-3 dents on all 4 delivered models. The 4th one came yesterday and it was in a box and the delivery men opened it in front of us and there was still a dent in the upper left door. Is there a problem with this model? We don't know whether to cancel and purchase somewhere else incase its a warehouse problem. We like the LG and woud like to get one that is perfect.
