Do you have 32 or 64bit Windows 7? This drive will not work in 64bit Windows 7. We finally got ours to work by only using it in machines with a 32bit OS (XP or Win 7). It would not work in any of our 64bit Windows 7 machines.

We regret the trouble you have been experiencing with this drive. This unit should be able to read discs with your current configuration. It is recommended to try a different USB port on the computer. If this continues to react in the same manner, then it would be recommended to contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 either for additional troubleshooting, or to make proper service arrangements.

Question

Blu-Ray Playback errors out code=0121

I bought this unit to play back Blu-Ray disks along with all the other supported features. When I load a BD movie I get the following
Content only allowed on a digital output. Use a DVI, HDMI or Display Port Connector. Code=0121
Running the BluRay Advisor gives me green lights across the board. With the USB interface, what am I to do now with this unit?

It sounds as if the videos you are attempting to use require HDCP compliance, which your computer is not providing. This is a security feature that is encoded into the disc, and cannot be changed by the drive. This has to do with the software, to prevent unauthorized copying of the disc.

I can now answer my own question.
The version of Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 Ultra, batch 3306 was my problem. By upgrading to batch version 3320 solved my problem. This patch was free on the Cyberlink website. I should have checked this out before I submitted my question. All is well and my external Blu-Ray r/w and player now works as I had first hoped. I tried a BR 3D movie and it worked as well.

This is not an LG issue. Microsoft has put this website out to assist customers with their disc drive. Please go to support.mircosoft.com/kb/982116. Follow the steps on the screen to update your drivers on your unit. There is a chance that your unit will work after that. If you are in warranty, please call one of our product specialists at 1-800-243-0000.

Thank you for your question. This is a registry error. This happens when you download two different recording software. You will probably need to delete Cyberlink and keep the Roxio if that is what you are using to write your DVD's.

None of the internal LG drives require firmware updates. When you cannot play a movie or burn DVDs, normally you will need to update their PC software. Nothing related with LG. Most Common software upgrade you would need is Power-DVD. If your GSA model needs a firmware upgrade, they are available online at http://www.lg.com/us/support/index.jsp

Question

why do i have Playback Lag

I tried playing 2 of my own blue ray disks and they ran fine (book of eli, pride and glory). I tried playing 2 blue ray disks rented from red box (narnia: voyage of the dawn tredder, sky line) and they would lag, and eventually skip and stop working.) I'm playing the videos on an alienware m11x r2 overclocked computer. The m11x does have 2 video cards, an integrated on and an nvidea card. the nvidia card doesn't seem to be engaging while running the blue ray disk. does this need to change?

Question

When should I use both USB connectors?

I have purchased the unit and noticed it comes with a USB "Y" cable. Under what circumstances is it necessary or recommended to use the second USB connection? Does it depend on the media being accessed by the drive, or does it depend on the computer? Guidance would be appreciated -- I don't want to tie up 2 of 3 USB ports on my laptop if I can get away with using just 1!

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately this is an issue that is not found in the drive. The problem is with the discs that come with the drive. At the same time LG would not be able to send out these drives because LG does not manufacture these discs. You may want to try to consult the software company and have them assist you with getting the software online. This is not an LG problem. If you are still having problems, please contact one of our product specialists at 1-800-243-0000 for assistance with your unit.

The use for the USB Y-Cable is if the primary USB port is unpowered. If the port can provide data and power simultaneously, then both ends of the Y-cable will be unnecessary.

The only reason that playback should be “choppy” on a computer drive is if the system resources of the computer are occupied, and not allowing a proper buffer rate for the video. Also check that the playback software is not having troubles. If the unit continues to be problematic, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 for additional assistance.

usb plugs

Why are there two usb plugs on the cord that comes with this device? My usb ports are not close enough together to plug then both in at the same time? Do they both have to be plugged in for the device to work? or is one enough?

The answer to this question depends entirely upon the specifications of your computer. This USB Y-cable is designed as such to provide one USB plug for data transfer, and the other USB plug to power the drive. If your USB port, on your computer, can handle both together, then only one will be needed. If not, then both are required.
