You need a router with an open port (recommended) and an Ethernet cable or a wireless adapter with a wireless network (not recommended but will work.)

Nothing external is needed as WIFI is built into the 550. You just need a Home Network for the 550 to connect to wireless.

Question

Why wont my player connect to Internet?

I set everything up correct, all wires, and it even says I am connected to the internet, tested it, all systems go. But when I try to log into netflix it keeps giving me an error screen. I turned off player and turned it on, I did the same to the router, and still nothing.

Did you register your BD550 as a Netflix streaming device? If not, get your Owner's Manual out and follow the instructions to get your player registered for your Netflix account.

Your question is specific to Netflix. Can you access the weather or You Tube as it may be a issue with your log in account for Netflix. If you can access other apps then most definatly that is.

Let me know.

No, the USB port is not set up to support a WiFi adapter. You would need a wireless adapter that connects by an Ethernet cable. Please be aware this is not a LG-recommended setup, but it can work.

Depends what the "USB Wireless Device" is.
Most routers only have Ethernet connections.
If the device is a HD you would need a sourse to pluf it into then sshare it on the network. (Source = PC)

By this, do you mean there are numerous lines running diagonally across the screen? If that is the case, you have your TV connected to the BD550 with the wrong cables. Even if you have a SDTV with component cables, it can only handle a 480i resolution signal. You'll have to connect the BD550 to your TV with composite (A/V) cables long enough to set the component output to 480i, then you can switch back to component cables.

It would help to know how you have connected the Blu-ray player to your TV and with what cables. Using an HDMI cable is your best bet.

Your laptop cannot act as a wireless adapter for your BD550. You will have to buy a wireless adapter that connects via Ethernet cable. While not supported by LG, it does work. Follow the adapter's instructions for setting up the adapter and connect it to the BD550 and you're set.

There is no way to stream the content directly from the laptop to the bluray player but we can suggest using the TV as a monitor to watch the content you are streaming on the laptop on the TV.

The BD Live feature is actually embedded in the content on a disc. A USB Drive must be connected in order to buffer and temporarily store the additional Blu-Ray data from online.

To fill your Instant Queue from your player, select the NetFlix option in the NetCast menu using the directional buttons, and then press Enter. On the [Instant Queue] screen, press the UP arrow button to select the categorized menu bar. Use the arrow buttons to select a menu, and press DOWN to display movies & TV episodes. Next, use the left/right arrows to select a movie or a TV episode, and press Enter. Finally, use the UP/DOWN buttons to select or add to your Instant Queue, and press Enter to add it.

Question

100 episode limit on Netflix?

Seems other people are having this issue as well. One of the answers given was that it was Netflix's issue as it has to do with their Instant Queue. This is not the case.

Netflix users all have the same queue limit. The issue is that TV shows with more than 100 episodes are limited to 100 available episodes. Nothing to do with Netflix, this is a device issue. It may be something to do with the device's cache or something. For example - if I pull up X-Files on my BD550 it will show that there are 100 episodes. Any of the other Netflix ready devices in my home will show the correct amount of episodes. I've heard that some Netlix-ready televisions are doing the same thing. What's even weirder is that they aren't the first 100 episodes, it just skips around to random ones the closer you get to the 100th displayed episode.

Anyway, this has got to be a device memory issue.

This situation has been forwarded to Netflix for investigation. While you say that your other devices show more than 100 episodes, Netflix has advised us that they have done this on purpose. All TV shows were originally posted on a season-basis previously, and they changed it to an episode-basis, and chose to display only 100 of them. Keep in mind that Netflix created the interface for this player, so it may be different from that of other devices. They can display all episodes, but some devices do not have the capability and will freeze. Whether this is the case for this device or not is unknown. The interface is provided by Netflix and is set at their standards.

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this player. It is recommended to run a DVD lens cleaner through this player. If this does not resolve the matter, then it may be that the player has a bad reader, and would require service. Please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 to make proper service arrangements.

Since you're asking this in a Q&A for the LG BD550, then you must have one, or are thinking of getting one. This Bluray player is an excellent Netflix streaming device-I have used it and find it is better than other methods I have used. The only thing better than the BD550 would be any other LG Bluray player with streaming capabilities.

Question

Can I watch my dvd collection on the lg bd550 blue ray player

I already have an internet service that I am pleased with, and I am not interested in subscribing to another one - or switching services. I am interested in subscribing to netflicks, but nothing else. I am waiting for delivery on the lg bd550 blue ray player, and the lg 42" ld550 television; and I already have the entry level Yamaha home theatre system and 3G internet service on my laptop computer. How can I pull all of this together to make it work without additional services?

I dont understand your question? Pull all of this together? If you are going with Netflix and or already have an account. you can go through your DVD player which I assume is hooked to your 42' and watch movies on your TV. You will have to set up your DVD player with the Netflix account which is well exlained in the owners manual. other than that you should be good to go.

Question

Can BD550 connect to my account, with MLB?

MLB lists the BD550, as one of the Blue Ray Disk Players, that will. I've streamed the last three MLB seasons, to my computer, than I also have connected to my HD tv and watch it there. But I'm fixing to get a set top box, that connects to the web, and get all my programming, from it, and not cable. I know Roku and Boxee connect with MLB, but I'd like to get the BD550 with you, if that is also possible. MLB, is my main enjoyment of watching tv. Does the BD550 also link to MLB, or are they wrong that it does?
