Question

Sediment from ice cubes

I have owned this refrigerator for 2 years, and replace the filter as soon as I am alerted to. Recently I have noticed a lot of sediment coming from the ice cubes after they are melted. I replaced the filter and it is still occurring. The sediment does not come from the water, only the ice.

I have the same problem. It is MOLD and is clearly evident after preparing a glass of ice water. The water dispenser is also coated with mold but you wouldn't know unless you lean over and look up the dispenser. There is no way to clean it either!

Question

How do you replace the ice and water switches?

I have the stainless steel version of the LG LFX28978ST refrigerator. The stainless steel is scratched and worn on both the ice and water switches...so I purchased the replacement button assemblies. However, I can't figure out how to remove the existing switches so that I can install the new parts. Can anyone provide me with instructions or a diagram? Thanks!

We regret the trouble you have experienced with this refrigerator. There are several potential causes for ice/frost buildup in a freezer. This could be caused by frequent opening of the door. It could be caused by an air leak in the gasket around the door, which could be caused by the gasket itself, or by the gasket or door frame being dirty to where air can leak. It can also be caused by ice that has fallen out of the ice bucket, melted, and then re-frozen on the bottom of the unit. Please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 for assistance with troubleshooting of this matter.

Yes, it is possible to adjust the front legs of the refrigerator. This is done to adjust leveling and to assist with door closures. The instructions are found on page 20 of the owner’s manual. After installing, secure the product with the LEGS so it does not move to the right of left. Your refrigerator has two front leveling legs – one on the right and one on the left. Adjust the legs to alter the tilt from front to back or side to side. If your refrigerator seems unsteady or you want the doors to close more easily, adjust the refrigerator’s tilt using the instructions provided in the Guide.

Sometimes the ice freezes together and you have to take the bin out and shake it to free the ice up. Be sure to do this over the sink since it will make a mess.

The newer models seem to have an "easy pull" handle that is more ergonomic and has a hinge that makes opening the freezer much easier.
