Question

How do I remove the slight musty smell after a year of on and off use?

I have removed the back lift off panel and scrubbed clean with a old toothbrush and lightly soapy water and a few drops of bleach to disinfect. The smell from the unit persists though it is very light.

To prevent such a musty smell, the unit should be well drained, and then stored in a dry location. Make sure the filters have been cleaned and are fully dry before reinstalling them into the unit. If you have additional questions, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000.

The exhaust air blowing through the hose (that vents your room's hot air to the outside of your home) gets very warm, and is at a high wind speed when the a/c is running. In the past 3 years I have never had a bug or flying insect go in there while the unit is on. It's never happened to us, but at night, I don't see why a bug wouldn't be able to crawl in there. Maybe you could put some sort of a screen over the end of the hose, outside, so that wouldn't happen.

The vent/diffuser is the outsource for the heat that is extracted from your home. Air will continue to be pushed to the outside.

EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) is a measure of how efficiently a cooling system will operate when the outdoor temperature is at a specific level (95°F). The higher the EER, the more efficient the system.

SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) is most commonly used to measure the efficiency of a central air conditioner. The higher the SEER, the more efficient the system. SEER measure how efficiently a cooling system will operate over an entire season.

All LG units are rated in EER. Split Units are rated in EER and SEER. These ratings can be found on specification sheets for the model, or on the Energy Star website (www.energystar.gov).

Window Vent width device on Portable A/C's

Hi - I have tall windows that slide open left to right, so I have to install the window vent vertically instead of horizontally. 1. Can that be done? 2. What is the length that the window vent can be expanded, so I can then determine if my windows are too tall for this or not? Thank you.

Yes, it can be done. The length that the window vent can be expanded to is 18 - 48" tall windows. If you have any more questions about installation of the vent page 17 of the user manual (found on the product support page) provides the information for a complete install.

Mine did the same. I realized that much of the liquid was still in the unit after I opened the drain cap. I now wheel mine over to the door way, drain spout out, then teeter and tip it down on the door edge to really get all the water out. There was a surprising amount left inside, so I hope this helps you in case you haven't already tried. :)

We regret the inconvenience you have experienced with this air conditioner. There have been no recalls on this product. The dehumidifying portion of this unit cannot be deactivated, as this is a normal part of the cooling process performed by all air conditioners. If the unit is filling quickly, then this means that it is very humid in the room being cooled, and it cannot evaporate the moisture fast enough to empty the tank before it is filled again. The only option that might assist with this would be to ensure that the filters are clean. If so, then there would be little else that could be done, other than checking why there is so much humidity in the room.

Question

Why is a reservoir full indicator needed when the unit is supposed to be self evaporating? What is the outlet for at the botoom back of the unit for?

I am getting the impression the LG Portable Air Conditioner is not self evaporating. If so why is there a coupling which appears to be for a discharge hose to be connected, and, why is there a reserviour full indicatior, if the portable air conditioner is self evaporating. First glance it sound as if the unit is not self evaporating. If it is not self evaporating how is the moisture which is removed from the air, removed from the portable air conditioner?

Read the manual much? You disconnect the exhaust hose and hook up a drain hose when using the unit in DRY (dehumidifier) mode. It is self evaporating only in COOL (A/C) mode.

The portable air conditioner is a self-evaporating unit. It is designed to use the moisture that is extracted from the air to help with the sealed system operations, allowing the machine to be more energy efficient. However, some environments have a humidity level that is higher than others, to a point that not all the moisture can be utilized and evaporated in the necessary time frame. In these instances, the water must be collected and discharged. This is the purpose for the Reservoir Full indicator and the Water Outlet port.

The unit operates like any other air conditioner. The water used in this evaporation process, comes from the collection tank, which catches the moisture that is taken from the air in the room. As long as the unit is running properly, the moisture is available. Since the moisture is taken from the air, there should not be any mineral deposits.

Depending on the amount of moisture in the air, you may have to empty the unit more often. The P2 or FL code indicates that the water basin is full. This will happen very frequently if the humidity is very high, installed in a new room, or if the unit is set to dry mode. Manually drain the unit or connect a hose for continuous drain if set to dry mode.

If running the unit in Cool Mode and the P2 or FL displays, reduce the fan speed to low and increase the temperature. This will allow the unit to remove the moisture and cool the room in a slower manner, so that the water is able to exhaust out the vent as it is splashed on to the condenser.

The Auto Swing sets the motorized air discharge to oscillate, improving air circulation in the room. This function can only be activated and displayed from the remote. To turn this function on, simply press the AUTO SWING button with the remote. To deactivate the function, turn the unit off. With the Auto Swing off, you may also manually adjust the air discharge to the desired position. It will remain in this position until the air conditioner is turned off or the AUTO SWING is activated.

This product has a self-evaporative system. The condensing water will be recycled to cool the condenser. This can not only improve cooling efficiency, but also save energy for you.

1. If the inside water is full, the display panel will display “FL”, and the compressor will stop running.
2. Please turn the machine off and move the machine to the place where can drain water, and then unplug the water-draining hole. After drainage, you can power it on and the machine will run again.
3. When the internal water collection tank is full, the air conditioner will turn off until the tank is emptied.
• Unplug the air conditioner, disconnect the exhaust hose from the back, and move the air conditioner to a suitable drain location or outdoors. You may also place a pan under the drain that will hold up to 1 quart of water.
• Remove the drain cap from the drain outlet.
• Once the water collection tank is drained, reinstall the drain cap, making sure it is on securely.
• Place the air conditioner in the desired location, reconnect the exhaust hose, and plug in the air conditioner.

Question

air conditioner seems to be running longer than needed

The air conditioner has been set at the lowest fan speed and seems to run almost constantly. However, a thermometer placed in the room indicates the room temperature is several degrees below the set temperature. Is this a problem with the location of the exhaust hose in relationship to the thermostat or could the unit have a bad thermostat?
