There should not be any problem with using this RO Filtration system, as long as no modification is being done to the refrigerator itself. The most that will likely happen is that the refrigerator will filter the water a second time with its own internal water filter.

Question

who locally (Summerville, SC) is an authorized LG repairman

The tubing on the rear of unit cracked. An appliance repairman came out and spliced two compression units with a smaller size tubing to "fix" the leak. He said LG uses an odd size tubing. Well, it has another crack and is leaking again. I would like to have the correct size tubing replaced.

I apologize for the frustration you are experiencing. There are many factors that can cause an issue such as this.

Is the temperature setting too warm on Freezer? -4°F (-20°C) is the minimum recommended temperature setting of the freezer compartment for normal ice production. If the freezer temperature is set at a warmer temperature, then the ice will produce at a slower rate.

Are the doors opened often? If the doors of the unit are opened often, the cold air will escape which will prevent the unit from maintaining the set temperature. Lowering the temperature can help, as well as not opening the doors as frequently.

Are the water lines kinked or leaking? Check the water lines at the back of the unit for any kinks or leaks that could be inhibiting water flow to the icemaker. If the water lines at the back of the unit are kinked, straighten them out. If there are any leaks, proceed to the leaking section of this guide.

The Express Freeze/Ice Plus can be used to increase ice production. This option will operate the compressor continuously for three hours. With this option the cold air in the compartment is increased as is ice production. Before activating this option, set the freezer temperature to 0°F (-18°C) or colder.

If you continue to experience this problem, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 for additional trouble shooting steps or service.

Many factors can cause the unit to leak from the bottom.

Is the water leaking from the drain pan at the back? There is a small drain pan at the back of the unit. If this is cracked or uneven, water will leak from this pan. The drain pan can be unleveled if the unit is raised too high in the front as well. Remove the back grill at the bottom of the back of the unit and check to see if this is the source of the leak.

Is the water coming from behind the kickplate? If the water is coming from behind the kickplate, the water line connector may be the problem. Remove the kickplate and determine if the water is coming from the connector. Both C Rings should be present and the water lines pushed in all the way. There should not be any splits at the end of either line.

Are both lines in all the way? To make certain that the lines are in the connector, remove the C Ring at one end and push in the end of the connector. With the end pushed in, pull out the water line and check for splits, then push the water line in all the way. Once this is done, put the C Ring back on. Check the other end the same way.

If you continue to experience this problem, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 for additional trouble shooting steps or service. You may also call Home Depot's Extended Warranty company to find out if the unit is still covered under the warranty plan.

The water reservoir on this refrigerator is not very large. As such, after a large glass or two, the water has emptied the reservoir that has cooled, and would need to refill and cool again. In the meantime, the ice from the ice dispenser can cool any additional water.

The fan is designed to stop when the door is open, so that part is normal. It is recommended to see if you can see any ice build up in the back of the freezer, around the freezer fan. You might unplug the refrigerator for about 4 hours to allow the unit to fully defrost, wipe up any moisture, and then plug it up again, to see if this resolves the matter. If the noise comes back then the unit may require service. To make service arrangements, you may either contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000, or you can check our Repair Provider Lookup on our website, at http://www.lg.com/us/support/repair....

A thin layer of frost on shelves and food items is normal. However, if frost is forming around the door, at the back of the unit, or excessive other issues might be occurring.

Are the doors opened often and closing properly? Every time the door opens, cold air escapes and warm air enters the cabinet. The warm air contains moisture that freezes and accumulates in the unit. A small amount accumulating on food, shelves and rails is normal. Make certain that the door seal is clean. Check for cold air escaping from the door by running hand around the perimeter of the door. If you feel cold air coming out, check to see if the seal is damaged in that area.

Is there a food item blocking the door? If there is something blocking the door, preventing it from closing completely then warm air will be able to enter the unit. This will cause frost buildup in the unit. Rearrange the food items in the freezer so that the item is no longer blocking the door.

Is the temp set too cold? Frost buildup can also occur if the temperature is set too low when there is not much food in the unit and/or the doors are not opened very often. Try raising the temperature in the unit so that it is not as cold. How much will vary depending on amount of food and how often doors are opened.

Has anything hot been added to the compartment? Warm air contains moisture, which will freeze in the unit. Allow food to cool before storing in the unit. This will prevent frost from occurring.

Is there too much food stored in the freezer compartment? If there is too much food in the freezer, this will inhibit proper air circulation which will cause frost formation. Make certain that nothing is blocking the air vents and that there is not too much in the compartment. Try removing some items and rearranging the items.

If you continue to experience this problem, please contact our Customer Interactive Center at 800-243-0000 for additional trouble shooting steps or service.

There are no door coverings available to replace the current finish. To change the door finish, one would have to replace the entire door. Even then, the manufacturer does not recommend modification to the product.

The ER IF error message is to note that the ICEMAKER FAN is having a problem. This could be caused by frost buildup around the fan blades, or it could be a burned out motor. It is recommended to let the freezer thaw, dry up the moisture, and then test it again. If the error message comes up again, then the unit may require service. Question

How do I acquire and replace the ice maker assembly?

The assembly that is screwed to the top left door is 3850JZ2147A. The is a piece of junk and either doesn't go up to stop it from making ice, or it doesn't lower again to cause it to make ice so we're out of ice every few days. In liu of heaving the whole refrig into the trash, I'd prefer just getting a new ice maker assembly and replacing it. I don't find that part listed anywere.

Is replacement simple enough for the mechanically minded or do I need to get a repair man?
